It looks like it functions like a Case Russlock but looks nothing like one. Actually I'm interested to see if it's a clone, counterfeit or copy of something 'cause it's interesting lookin'.

It's ridiculous to see people equating Chinese knives = clone or copy.

Are talking about in this thread? I don't see where the OP said that. Perhaps you are confusing this thread with another.

On topic, it says Seki on it. If it is not made in Seki then it would be a counterfeit. Maybe not a direct copy of a specific design but clearly misrepresenting what it is.

It is a modernized form of the higonokami. AG Russell is offering a similar knife from Japan. Original, non-counterfeit, versions of this knife normally sell for no less than $ 120. Based on the website and the pricing, the knife is a counterfeit version of the Seki Japan original.

I have no problem buying knives where the design and the manufacturing are Chinese or where the Chinese collaborate with international designers (Begg Reate Steelcraft Kwaiken is a favorite of mine). I will not buy counterfeits or shop on the sites that enable them.

OK...so what is the "original" then? Is AG Russell's Hikari version a clone of the "original"? Is this one a clone of a clone?

No the AG Russell and similar Japanese models are updated versions of the higonokami which is one of the most cloned knives in world since the inventor didn't patent it. I would call the Chinese versions of the updated knives counterfeits, especially since they are marked Seki. To make a confusing story even more confusing, if they had copied the original folded brass handle version they would be legal.

If its a Chinese-made knife with a Seki label, then I agree...counterfeit.

Though, as you say, all higonokamis are clones, I suppose.

I wouldn't call it a counterfeit unless it had the fake brand name. It should be considered a cheap copy of a particular style.

I've seen a few similar Higo's like this lately on Instagram.

Shame if they're all copies/clones of other licensed knives as I was interested in getting one... :thumbdn::(

A little research goes a long way.

I bought one of the modern Hikari's on the Big River. It came marked Seki City on the blade but with packaging from China...as in, it direct shipped from China. It's very similar to the one the OP posted a picture of except the steel is an odd kind of Damascus. In all ways, the knife appears to be well made. I bought it because it was neat to see a modern Higo knife, but it makes me wonder where the one's sold by AG Russel come from...from all I can tell, the knives look the same.

Yeah. Crap copy, possibly Chinese-made, of modern higos made by several makers.

In the knife industry, Seki is a brand name. Something claiming to be what it isn't is a counterfeit. If the knife says Seki on the blade but it is made elsewhere it is a counterfeit.

I agree. It wasn't posted on the webpage.
