What is this worth???

My .02. I would not remove a price from a listing even if requested by the buyer. I can think of no legitimate reason that a person would object to the price being left up. If such a reason was given, i'd consider it, but i can't think of one.

I've done a lot of deals on other forums and have never asked a seller nor been asked by a buyer to remove a price. I don't know what purpose it serves so I would need to understand the reason and assess its legitimacy.

I'm going to start quoting the purchase price in my "I'll take it post" from now on when I buy on the exchange, perhaps if we all do this others will follow...

This is a great idea for those who want it kept.

I don't get the rationale for deleting prices. Golden Rule seems good to me: It's helpful for me to see the old prices, so I leave them there.

It would certainly appear to be most beneficial for those folks that live on the exchange and snatch up the top deals to have the prices deleted so when they go to flip the blades, savvy shoppers can't pull up the prior listing and go "Hey, didn't you only pay X for this a couple weeks ago? Why the X markup?" Deleting prices is mostly for the profiteers, IMHO.

Back when I had to sell off most of my collection to pay my bills, i was so broke i sometimes had to lower the prices to a ridiculous level in order to sell them to keep the electric on, or to pay the mortgage. Often at a considerable loss. That is the only time i deleted prices, out of embarrassment.

I think this is the two top reasons..the 3rd would be incase of a Customs Search from the Importing Country to raise the Tax Rate on a sale.

Hmmm, never considered that. So foreign Customs agents are savvy enough to go search for value on individual imports? Wow.

An honorable seller here will typically announce that they will not lie about value on a Customs declaration, but that tax man has to do what he has to do.

I totally agree, and will also put a price in any "I'll take it" buys, also will leave prices up on any sales.

Unless someone is working a commercial enterprise internationally and deliberately trying to dodge significant amounts of tax, I really doubt that any customs body will be trolling an internet exchange looking to catch individuals out. They really are only interested on what is stated on the accompanying documentation. In reality, unless someone is already a person if interest to a customs body how would the link between the person stating "I'll take it" under the user name "Biglov'nBob" (etc) be linked to the $500 Busse that has just landed in Botswana for delivery to Freddy Joe Smith ??

Yes, there are certainly the buy low and sell high folks who may be troubled by the old price being about BUT, if the original seller was happy with $50 and the next owner can sell it two weeks later for $75 (to a buyer who is still happy at $75) is that wrong or free market at play ?

I would be happy to see the prices remain.

I do not delete prices on for sale ads and I will start quoting the price in my "I'll take it" ads. Sounds like a good standard practice.

Interesting, as I have never had such a request. Failing that, I leave the price up.

I've never had anyone ask me either. Unless they were wanting to flip it for a profit I don't think they would ask.

I don't think a Custom agent would come here to look, and if they did they wouldn't know who to look for. I've seen very few people use their real name as their screen name.

I only sell US now, but when I did I never lied about the amount on a customs form. Thats not a good idea.

I've seen threads in the Feedback section about this, and several have said they would start quoting the price in their reply.
Good idea IMO.

I leave all prices up, and have for most as long as I have been here. I think its good for all for a lot of reasons. I will also admit that on occassion I have removed a couple prices if I was asked.

But, and I say but cause the price left doesnt always reflect the true price someone paid all the time either. Examples, a buddy hits me up and says hey I want x and of course I work a little magic....I dont lower the price to reflect that I just leave it at original asking price. At the same time when it goes over seas and its a lot more I dont raise it either.

I have on occassion asked for a price to be removed cause I only bought it to hedge a bet so to say....because it was a fire sale and in no way did I want that price to reflect on the value of the rest of my collection of something rare and valuable that I had probably paid even more for the others. It also didnt mean it was going to be flipped instantly either.

So, finally I dont think that it always means somebody is up to no good.....A lot of times its more innocent than not. Some, do it cause they want to stay anonymous as possible and dont even post just as a lot dont even post in the thread and would rather send pm/email.

I just think that it is a bad habit that started, and possibly perpetuated among newer forum members as just S.T.O.P. cause they saw someone else do it.

Hopefully, this will start the ball rolling back in the right direction. It hasnt always been this way:thumbup:

OK, OK! I'll keep prices up. I just get tired of all the supermodels and long lost family hittin' me up with all the bank I'm rollin' in with selling beat up knives. ;)

A used Busse has almost no value. If you'd like to send it to me, If it's in good shape, I'll send you $10-20 for it and donate it to the homeless free food kitchen. Don't thank me , I'm just generous by nature. This is a one time offer however, so you should jump on it.
