What is too much for you to carry?

I notice that some things are too big to carry for what they are.

For example - I will carry a 7" Espada XL because it's a 7.5 in blade. The blade length justifies the weight in my mind. I know it is a tank.

I am hard pressed to carry a 7oz Copper PM2 or a Buck 110 though I will try my pouch. The Leatherman Wingman is just at my limit for it's size - the Wave is too much for anything outside my pack.

Loved my 110 LW, dyed it red and gave it away and want another.

I was thinking that could make it more convenient. Have a belt sheath for the PM2 that makes the copper easier to tote.

It's purely situational. I've been hauling my Ka-Bar BK2 around a lot lately outside in the woodlot, but it's not what I would carry backpacking or spending the day/night in town. I don't have a problem carrying around my Zero Tolerance ZT 0308BLKTS, as long as I'm not wearing a pair of shorts. There are going to be times where the Benchmade Bugout or Bradford Guardian 3 is about right.

Don’t mind heavier folders, including the Buck 110. Much healthier to skip a meal when I want to save a few ounces. :)

But I agree on the copper PM2. Wouldn’t carry that, because it wouldn’t feel right. Not sure why.

Regarding fixed blades the most comfortable ones are below ~10oz, independent of size,

I've had the buck 110 since the late 90s. Never once carried it in a pocket. It's just a giant heavy block. It's great for throwing in a pack, though.

I do have a Willumsen zero7, which is a tank, and will carry it occasionally. Most of the time I'd rather have an 8(ish)" oal fixed blade than a large folder.

The design of the knife makes a difference. Like that chunky 110 I don't carry but the slim one with pocket clip is pretty nice.

I haven't tried the copper PM2. I don't think I would have a problem carrying it because I would use the clip and I always wear tight jeans. I was buying bigger and bigger knives, when I bought a ZT 0200 I realized I had gone over my limit for size and weight to carry. If I don't use a clip and just put the knife in my pocket I have less tolerance for weight although I sometimes carry a Leatherman Charge.

I haven't really had any issues carrying heavy knives, but folders with a blade over five inches just get too unwieldy for me to pocket carry. At that point I would rather just throw a larger fixed blade on my belt (I'm usually carrying one that's between 3.5" and 4.5" anyway) and roll with that if I need a big blade.

I’ve always got my pistol, flashlights, OC, etc., and when I’m in urban areas or on nights when monsters are about I often carry my LARGE folder as well. Seems like a lot but at work I’m carrying around 30 pounds of gear so it doesn’t feel uncomfortable to me…

I am generally bothered more by how thick a folder is more than how heavy it is. I edc a Spartan SHF full size. It's a solid chunk of titanium and steel, but it doesn't really bother me. A Buck 110 probably weighs close to it, but those are just bricks unless you are going to belt carry the knife.

Large Sebenza is my benchmark - anything bigger, thicker and/or heavier is a no-go.

Anything that gets in the way. Which varies with what you're doing wearing etc. There are times I don't want anything more than a PM2LW. Other times other gear including knives.

Yup. I prefer my Spydero Stretch 2 over my PM2 because the FRN Stretch is thinner and feels more solid than the PM2. The difference in weight is basically a wash, but the few millimeters difference in thickness is apparently enough. Maybe I'm just spoiled.

I never have any problems carrying any knife. I am, however, geared for the situation. Day at the office? I carry an office type knife, like the Kershaw Lucha.🤪 Yep, that’s my EDC here lately, carried in my pocket with a bali boot, much bigger than a 110, not a problem to be had.

No fixed blade is too big for me to carry when I’m out of the office. When adventure calls I regularly carry a Busse BMe or Basic 9 no problem. If less adventure calls, it’s usually one of my M6s.

Depends entirely on (1) how far and long are you going to carrying it, and (2) how much else are you carrying?
