What is too much for you to carry?

While I appreciate the heft of the good old 110, it is a bit bulky for pocket carry, so I pack mine in the excellent nylon sheath. I've come to appreciate lighter handle materials, however, such as G10 and FRN, which lighten the knife while still providing excellent structural strength. My Military is almost unnoticeable in a hip or jacket pocket compared to my 110 or even 112, so it sees more carry time.

Spyderco K2 at 5.5” closed and 6.2oz disappears in my pocket and is a pleasure to carry every day.
Spyderco Tatanka at 6.5” and 9.2oz is a bit much, but I must say it’s SO close to being an incredible edc knife I almost resent it for what it’s not.

This is precisely why I sold my Tatanka, which is good "in theory" but is very impractical "in a reality"

It was "too much" for me. Instead of a clip, it should have been sold with a sheath instead. LOL! ;)

I find that the 4" Hundred Pacer, which is lighter/smaller than the K2 is also very easy to carry despite the size of the blade.

I've always liked large folders, and I was never one to complain about the added weight or bulk; but I think I found my line with the 4Max. I just can't think of an instance where a fixed blade wouldn't be more useful for large tasks, and an average sized more easily deployable folder wouldn't be more convenient than it for smaller tasks. Plus it just rides cumbersomely in the pocket to me. It has been relegated to a novelty that sits in a drawer.

I am generally bothered more by how thick a folder is more than how heavy it is. I edc a Spartan SHF full size. It's a solid chunk of titanium and steel, but it doesn't really bother me. A Buck 110 probably weighs close to it, but those are just bricks unless you are going to belt carry the knife.
I agree, the width is more important to me than weight. Anything around a 1/2” feels fine in my pocket. Anything thicker just fills the pocket. I will say though anything over 6.5 oz starts to be a little much weight wise but I don’t have anything that heavy anyway.

I’ve always got my pistol, flashlights, OC, etc., and when I’m in urban areas or on nights when monsters are about I often carry my LARGE folder as well. Seems like a lot but at work I’m carrying around 30 pounds of gear so it doesn’t feel uncomfortable to me…

The dream setup right here. I would put a little P4 Squirt on the keychain and use the black clip spray from Sabre but I love it!!

Been carrying a 5.5" Cold Steel Voyager XL for years. On the large size for a folder but I make kydex sheaths professionally and made myself a holster style sheath that the knife just clicks into like a pistol and snaps out. One handed draw and one handed deployment.

My Praetorian Genesis T is about as heavy as I’m willing to go. I love the knife but it’s a heavy fella.

Really depends on what I'm wearing, but generally no more than 6oz for a big folder. My Biryukov #7 has a 4.2" blade and weighs in at 4.58oz. Perfect imo. I normally carry a gun, so the less weight the better. However, I will go with a heavier folder like the Spyderco GB1 if I'm hanging around the house, which also could call for heavier use than day to day office use.

I think pretty much everything I own is under 6oz, most of it well under that, many under 3oz

My limit is full size Harsey folder. It was just too big for my needs. I think I am good with everything smaller.

I’m a sucker for big knives, especially if they carry well (pocket bushman, crooked river, socom elite). My edc is usually one smallish/reasonable sized knife and one large knife (usually one of the blades just mentioned). I don’t really know where I would draw the line. I guess anything bulkier than a Benchmade adamas. That thing is an a brick but I love it dearly and carry it every weekend

Weight doesn't really bother me. I would say a 4" folder would be max for me. 3.5 to 4 seems to be the sweet spot for me.

I bought a CS 4 Max Scout to check out the very impressive lock, but I find it too bulky/heavy at 10.2 oz for a pocket clip. I love large knives, and a Spyderco M2 is my favorite folder. I am gifting the 4MaxScout to a guy I know who will use it.
