Just a quick auction search shows in the last month or so, least 2 dozen Striders sold for between $1000-almost $6000 !

I don't have any problem with the way people want to spend their money, but it is shocking that an SNG with a $600 price is a "quick sale", and that with all the options out there that Striders go up in value so fast.
The upper end stuff is mostly makume or timascus safe queen stuff, but day-ummmm... I can't believe these prices on the secondary market for pretty much any Strider except for the collaborations.
WHY?!!

The key is in the promotional material... if you’re a knife maker and you film yourself walking around a machine shop in slow motion with a Ranger shirt on, throw in some sparks flying off a grinder and some hammer forging for dramatic effect, they’ll be lining up around the block for a piece of the action.

I really hope this thread doesn't go that direction again. Even if it is nothing but negative comments, Mick doesn't deserve the attention it brings him.

The name means nothing and the products are subpar. Just don't buy them.

They quit producing production knives a while ago, focusing on custom works from a POS. It caused a jump in resale prices due to end of supply. The prices will come back down eventually. XM-18's used to be $1000.

If you really want a "Strider" look, Protech does a great job with their SNG,SMF and PT Autos!

The knife world is very strange.

The tactical collectors can sometimes be rabid....and go nuts on makers or brands based more on hype (see: “Navy Seal”, “Special Forces”, etc) than actual quality.

On the other side of the spectrum, you have makers like Joel Chamblin (who?!) that make custom tactical knives on par with RJ Martin and Bob Terzuola but sell for less than a Sebenza.

wish I could figure it out.

I looked up Joel Chamblin because I'm an idiot who'd never heard of him and this knife is beautiful!

They still make production knives, but in smaller runs

Regardless of how you feel about the person, there is demand for the knives. Even though I like the SnG, there are limits to what is reasonable to buy one.
Most of what I saw in the higher $ were extremely limited runs and buy now-which may not sell

Chamblin's website no longer works, he doesn't seem to advertise a lot so it's hard for people to buy something if they don't hear of it and can't get hold of him. Also the last knife I saw of his for sale was over $2,000

As with most things, some of the knowledge being shared in false. Regardless of the namesake, current production Strider knives are damned well made knives that actually perform well and are actually offer something notably different than the current glut of Ti-framelock-flippers that are roughly analogous to modern lookalike cars and crossover SUV's. I understand the disdain for MRB; I don't get the hate for inanimate objects that happen to be the basis for this very forum.

A reasonable position, certainly. On the bright side, the fact that this is a thread talking about the high prices the knives command would seem to be proof that the folks hating on MRB aren't hurting him or the market for his knives much, if at all.

And FWIW literally three quarters of the SNGs I handled were poorly made/defective. That was a ways back, and maybe things have gotten better, but they don't have exactly have a spectacular record as far as quality and warranty service go either.

I like you, so I'm going to take the next two Strider threads I see off, I won't hate on them until the third thread that comes around. It's going to be hard, I hope you appreciate the personal cost I will feel in not getting to whack this particular dead horse for a while. ;)

Supply and demand.
Less supply now, with about the same amount of demand.

The old ones are going for more used than they did when new, due to design change, material change (stupid aluminum scale...G-10 is better ;) ), and the fact that people like "vintage" things.

People are gullible.

There's an old saying about fools and money that pretty well explains it.
Yes.

The current "Production" Striders are made by Medford. Why the current price surge? Who knows....
