What is your Avatar?

Mine is rather embarrassing... My name is Will and my middle initial is C. My mother used to call me willic (willy see). I could't think of a name, so...... My avatar makes me laugh every time I see it, so... :) By the way, Eric Cartman is holding an Asp! It's actually MVM's Asp! LOL.... I made one with a Bishop, I'll have to post soon!

Cool idea for a thread, Thurin! Fun!!!

My avatar is a Brown Recluse spider. I started at BF with a different name. Then I researched the brown recluse one day and I was fascinated to find out that it was a southern creature. At the time, I couldn't have recognized one correctly. I found that odd. Once I did my research, I was astounded to find that this spider was a part of my everyday life as a boy. My grandads place in Mississippi is infested with them and I had encountered them hundreds of times as a boy. Luckily, I was pretty careful about picking up things in barns, and never had to experience the bites. I actually picked the username as a public service kinda thing. Most people, I figured, would not be able to recognize the BR either. Thats ironic to me because everyone knows a black spider with an hourglass is a Black Widow. Yet, the BR is easily as dangerous. So I would put the pictures out there and hope it helped someone. Then I started making knives, and used the name for the business as well. Its a cart before the horse situation to be sure.

Avatar. Avatar? Oh, Avatar...gotta work on that.

I think thurin's sheath storage system (very much like mine) would make a great one!

No magic in my username...

Andy, yup, got 'em in Virginia too. But if I'm seeing one as close up as your avatar … I'm too close.

Thanks for the public service!

Great thread! My avatar is from a backcountry trip to Nova Scotia in '05. This was the sunset on the last night of the trip and is one of the best ones I've ever seen.

Mine is my granddaughter, Hanna. She was diagnosed with leukemia in July of 2012, and has been in remission for 20 months.

LilBaydeNoc is in reference to just that, Lil Bay de Noc located in the northwest corner of Lake Michigan. I also call this place my home. My avatar is my favorite Pink Floyd album, Animals.

I think yours is the most touching. Glad to know that she is beating it!!!! :thumbup:

Absolutely!! :thumbup:

LilBaydeNoc that is beautiful area up there. I have family up there and I hunt up there.

My avatar is a little boring compared to most. I'm a drag racing fan and the pic is of the nostalgia funny car "the Chi Town Hustler" doing what the Hustler is best known for. Long smokey burnouts!

My avatar is Loki mostly because I'm a huge marvel fan, but I also like Tom as an actor all around. Ill be switching through super heros and what nots a lot I think.

As for my name..... I play a lot of video games and its been my name on there for a few years and has stuck with most of my friends.

My name is Phil.

I just updated my avatar photo as a result of this thread. The photo is my black labrador girl Jessie sitting next to my Big Sneaky. Her nickname is "J-Dog." She happily walks or hikes with me anywhere. Her favorite things are swimming in the waves at Arroyo Burro beach in Santa Barbara and doing anything she can with me.

My screen name is an homage to Buckminster Fuller. He was a brilliant thinker and inventor who coined the term to describe himself as someone who strives to have broad comprehensive knowledge of any subject from "life" to economics to physics. He believed that specialization was a limiting factor that blinded one to the broader analysis of how changes impact the entire system. I am not a brilliant thinker or inventor, but I do take the broad view of acquiring knowledge and how it relates to the "Big picture" on any given subject.

The first step in dealing with your addiction is admitting it to others so they can hold you accountable. I confess that I am a Shadetree burlap addict. Please support me in my addiction.

Neither my avatar, nor my screen name have anything to do with me today.

Striga= witch
Mort= death

Dead witch was something that appealed to me when I was a heathen pagan.

The avatar was from the same time. Both were chosen many years ago when forums first started. I only used them when I registered here (like 7 years or whatever ago) because my friends from other boards would recognize me.

Funny how you change but things that have nothing to do with you follow. Been meaning to change my sn to Anthony Alms or similar for a while. When I do, my avatar will go away as well. Most likely replaced with a sheath or knife I made.

Cool thread. :)

Mine is the engine code for the ultimate version of the prolific Cosworth BD series engines. Different variations of these engines powered some of my favorite cars for a long time, and the Evolution variant of the BDT powered my all-time favorite car: the mighty RS200 Evolution. This is about as close to ever owning one as I'm going to get. Plus, I just love Cosworth as a company. They're the Fiddleback Forge of the automotive world.

When I was at the University of Arkansas, one of the chemistry professors did his research on Brown Recluse poison and possible beneficial uses or derivatives. He kept jars of them. When he needed more, he and his students would go through the old lecture halls and labs gathering them all up. They never lacked for spiders. When I moved up to northwest Washington 14 years ago, I was told there were no dangerous spiders. Now they are ubiquitous, having hitched rides on the moving trucks fleeing California.

I am also a devoted follower of Tolkien, as well as C.S. Lewis. After decades of reading and rereading a cheap old paperback LOTR, I have finally invested in the Folio Society set pictured above. I have read The Hobbit and The LOTR aloud to my daughters four or five times over. When they were young I would leave out the scariest parts.

One of my nicknames is Dr. Scott, and I am a fan of the British sci-fi show, so the Doctor is often my avatar.

My avatar is an image of Harrison Ford's character Rick Deckard in the best science fiction movie of all time--Bladerunner. Bladerunner would have been a cool forum name, but I chose hiredgun for various reasons one of which has to do with my line of work.

I have no avatar because I'm invisible....

But RRaconteur is abbreviated from "Rogue Raconteur," which is something I began calling myself back a while now. I'm a pastor, and a big part of how I understand my job involves storytelling (raconteur = storyteller): helping people find their story in God's story, as well as finding God's story in their own. But storytelling is a strange thing that changes both teller and hearer. I feel called to be God's storyteller (a daring identification), and God tends to tell stories that don't go the way we expect--they're rogue stories. So I'm a rogue raconteur.

Edited to add: I just wanted to play too. Looked like a fun game. 😄

I just decided to "go gold," so I thought I'd bump this thread. I'm really grateful for BF and Andy for providing this unique space to connect and support one another (aka "fuel our addictions").

My avatar is the Zipperump-a-Zoo, a monster from a Mercer Mayer children's book that my kids like. (I remember reading some of the Mercer Mayer books as a kid myself). The Frau and I have long chuckled about this particular image, since I am almost always barefoot, for some time had a handlebar mustache, and because she thinks this is what I look like when I preach. Could be worse, I suppose. :-D
