What is your "Bang For Buck" Knife?

Fixed blade: Mora Clipper or Craftsman

Folder: Kershaw Vapor or Byrd Catbyrd, but the Kershaw gets the nod because it isn't made by commies.

The Mora's are hard to beat, but I am going to go with the Ka-bar Dozier folding hunters....Unbelieveable knife for $18, or you can get the large hunter for $25, the sharpest knife I have ever touched. Great stuff.

They've been mentioned before, but Mora fixed blades, Browning Ice Storm and Boker Trance fit the bill for me.

Spyderco CPM S90V Military, and Kershaw CPM S110V Shallot.
The Shallot is actually the better deal at $70, and given that it's the only way you can get S110V right now, the real value is almost priceless.
The S90V Military at $200 is only worth as much as a custom made knife with the same steel (around $500), as that's currently the only other way to get your hands on S90V.

The humble Swiss Army Knife . No BS , always does what it says on the tin .

Sog Flash 1 for $29.95 on eBay

Assisted opening and perfect size/shape for EDC

This is my "beater" knife and so far it has handled it.

Thanks to Nutnfancy for hyping this one

The only downside I see on this knife is some slight blade play that can be expected for an assisted opening knife under $30:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I know this has been said before, The Buck 110 bought at Walmart for under 27 bucks is hard to beat.

Spyderco Native. Quality S30v steel, great design, nice size and excellent customer support. What more could you ask for $40?

The Kershaw Oh So Sweet is a chinese made assisted opener for 25$ that has no play in the model I own. I find it more ergonomic than the SOG too.

I find the Byrds to perform well for the price. MY favorite model would be the G10 PE Flight. I like handle designs that get your hand close to the cutting edge without relying on a choil, like the Flight and Spyderco Tenacious, another good value.

All of my Swiss Army knives have been very fairly priced. 20$ for a Soldier is an exceptional deal IMO. Same with Leatherman's keychain sized models.

I've been using Mora's in the woods for years, specifically a 760MG. They've been batoned through wood and steel, thrown, used to chop, left out in the snow overnight, torture tested to the point of breaking etc. Excellent knives for the 8$ or so they charge for them. The sheath isn't too good, but I carry mine taped to the sheath of a larger knife so I don't really care.

Queen's D2 slipjoints offer excellent edge holding and craftsmanship for under 50$. I have a stockman with carved bone handles that is beautiful and cuts well with the edge I put on it.

50$ might seem steep for a knife of its size, but considering it's "the best" I don't mind paying it. The Spyderco Spin is the best small knife I have used. Small meaning three or two finger grip. The fit and finish is up there with my BG42 and carbon fiber Military, the blade shape is excellent, VG10 steel is an excellent steel except a bit behind my favorites when it comes to edge holding, the ergos offer excellent control and grip retention while remaining surprisingly comfortable for a two finger grip and the lockup has been 100% secure since I purchased the knife. Really worth a look if you're into small knives.

I paid 75$ for my ZDP189 Endura and I also consider it a good value considering the steel performance and the overall build quality. The grind needed reprofiling for the steel to really shine, but it's treated me great ever since. Definately one of my go to knives for EDC or outdoors use.

Kershaw tends to put their knives out at very low prices, so you get a lot for what you pay for. They have a large amount of knives in the under 50$ category. They're well made with solid locks and good fit and finish, but I generally find the Byrds and Spydercos feel better in the hand, hence I carry them.

If you're in the market for an axe or hatchet, the Fiskars are exceptional for the price they go for. I've taken down a few trees, built shelters and chopped up many cords of firewood with my full sized Fiskars, and it's hardly even needed a resharpening. A couple passes on a fine ceramic rod once in a while has kept it shaving sharp.

I see Buck 110/112 mentioned several times and I would agree for a heavy folder. The current ones are around $30.00, I bought mine around 30 years ago for $25.00. If that isn't price stability or even deflation, I don't know what is.

BUT, my all time best bang for the dollar is AG Russell's Featherlight. For around $35.00 or $50.00, depending on steel choice, it is the best knife for the money in my mind. Opens and closes with one hand, never concerned about the lock failing, comfortable to carry, large enough for most needs, small enough for most sheeple! I have carried scores of folders, but always come back to this one. Just my thoughts.

For me it's the Spyderco Tenacious:cool: This knife is simpley unbeatable, and though it is made in China, it still meets, and exseeds all the standards Spyderco puts into their Highend models:eek: Followed by any of my SAK's...My favorite being the Soldier(black alox):)
