What is your best memory of bladeforums? (knife content)

James Mattis
The family atmosphere that was here up to about 5,000 members.
I did enjoy the Mad Dog notched tang episode.
A guy named Seth who sent me an expensive(to me) knife without knowing me and said pay when you can. We have become good friends.
Getting to know Barry Jones, Greg Mete, Gene Osborn and lots of others.
The first night I found this site.

The first time I posted and almost everybody jumped in and say "hello".

What a friendly bunch of fellows, I told myself. Maybe I will stick around and see what can I learn from these guys.

It is a most humbling experience, because I am still learning.

The great thing is there's no shortage of teachers.

To me the most memorable thing regarding these forums were getting to read the posts by James Mattis and Bobby Irons. These gentleman whom we lost inspired many of us. Their pure love of the blade, their exceedingly exceptional values and their ability to deflame any post that was getting out of hand is surely missed. I hope these two fine men rest in peace.

There have been many examples of peope's generosity. Bobby Allman (my first mentor--wish he was still here), Dave (Lifter4him), The G man (Gary Graley), St.James, Clay and others. All these guys have corresponded with me and have meant a lot to me. I can't count the guys who out of the blue sent my sons stuff especially after my then 11 year old won the KI knife essay contest with 4 others. Sal Glesser sent him a book. Bill Moran wrote my boy a letter. Clay would send them stuff all the time. They still have the enduras and bandanas he sent. They would ask me, "dad, when Mr. Fletcher gets tired of _______ will he send it to us" :D Dave sent them Camillus knives. So did Bob Allman. Unbelievable!

Getting to correspond regularly with Ed Fowler has been my biggest thrilled. That and him not getting tired of my tyro like questions :).

Lots of theings I forgot and though the forum is getting really big now, these things I will remember. I have been corresponding with the above guys for over 2 years! That is pretty special to me.

The thing I remember the most (and will for a very long time) was my encounter with the CSUF police and the shit that followed. It felt so good to know that I had the support of you guys.

Threads with James Mattis are at the top. You new folks sure missed alot there. Next up those Mad Dog threads. Ahh they were so much fun. My last and I don't know why Mike did not mention him Lynn G.! How could you miss Lynn? :D

Regards,

Tom Carey

James Mattis, who actually changed my knife buying and carrying habits, these days. At least, that's the way I look at it.

And anything with Maddog in it, notched tangs or digging with them, Mad Dog knives are great all round family entertainment ;).

Cheers,

Wouter
