What is your collection worth?

Enough to think I needed a high security safe...only to buy a high security safe and realize the safe was worth more than the knives :p

I'd fill it with more knives and gold and bitcoinses but I spent all my money on the safe...

lol, I try not to think about that, because I know I'm loosing money overall. Sure, there's the very rare time when I MIGHT break even or get just a few dollars more than what I paid.
But, I defer to an earlier post, that - in essence, all my obligations are met and, if I loose a few dollars on a hobby that I love doing, then so be it.

It’s an interesting question. And, I have no idea.

I have a metric buttload of user knives. SAK’s. Camillus mil-k knives. Some Spydercos.

Then the next tier of value. A few Randall’s. A Sebenza. Some other handmade knives. Several Dozier.

Then the expensive ones. A Jimmy Lile First Blood II and a little stag handled pocket knife. A James Crowell Bowie.

I’m actually moving. A lot of stuff is boxed up. This is good motivation to go through everything when I settle in, do an inventory.

If the threads still around, I’ll report back!

3.5k if I guessed current market value. I have no real idea what CMFTW blades go for these days, but I'm going to guess Priceless (to me at least). And Dylan Farnham's work has probably gone up more than I'd expect.

I guess my collection is worth simple joy. I don't think I'll part with any more blades made by good people here on the forums, past prestent or future.

No idea, but if you mix in sharpening equipment and kitchen knives it would be thousands.
With Knife Center alone I'm closing in on a $50 gift card and it's hardly the only place I buy. They certainly don't carry gyutos I would buy.

It actually scares me to think about it.

I started w/cheap Kershaws and CRKTs but quickly graduated to more expensive knives.

The most I've spent for a knife is around $475 and the cheapest lest than $20 but, on average, we're probably in the $100-250 range. Call it $125 on average and the 330+ knives in my collection are "worth" around $40k+ "retail."

Yes, really $40K+! Heck, my gun collection (which only includes around 20 pistols and long guns) is only worth around $20k. So, I guess I've really gone overboard w/my knife collection.

LOL! ;)

Good thing you didn't graduate to more expensive knives like $550 and up. :D

I’m looking to get a classy gentlemen’s knife what do you recommend? I’m thinking of a Micheal Zieba MS3 Damasteel or a Chris Reeve Umnummzaan/ Sebenza 31?

Myztro Myztro
So for you this is a hobby? ;)
That's a fair question that I have to think about to really answer... Yes, it's certainly a hobby since I collect them more because I like them than actually "need" all of them. However, all the knives I buy are purchased because I want to use them, not just look at them. In that case they are really a set of tools. Truth be told though, I know I could buy much cheaper "tools" that would do pretty much the same job from good companies like Boker, Real Steel, Kershaw and even Gerber. So now I'm back to saying that it's more a hobby than anything. The value matters to me because I may find another knife that I think might be closer to that "perfect" knife I'm looking for, and would need to sell or trade one or more of mine to stay within what I am going to consider to be the maximum amount of money I feel I should spend on my "hobby".

A big part of my hobby began with looking for the perfect gentlemen's knife because I had an executive position in an office environment. I thought the Benchmade Valet was it until I got further into the collection. Now I really think it might be the CRK Small Sebenza. I prefer it over the Zann or large Sebenza because they are pretty good size and don't really fit the gentleman "feel" IMO. An inlayed small Sebenza gives you smooth one handed deployment with quality materials and a fairly no-threatening appearance that is hard to beat. The one thing it is missing that I feel is pretty important for office carry is a deep carry clip. Right now one of the most practical yet concealable knives I carry is the 940-1 with a mini deep carry stonewashed clip. Almost disappears against most pants materials and the blade (although not super attractive) is non threatening as well so I can deploy it almost anywhere without freaking people out.

When I see threads like this it reminds me I don't use my knives enough and I have reasons I got them but I tend to get sidetrack and those uses don't come up as often as they should if I did the things I mean to do.
