What is your current “Grail” knife?

It's a Henckels "jagmesser" or hunting knife. Henckels made various patterns of hunting knives, a lot of them with corkscrews. The fulcrum lock flips over and has a point that creates a break between the blade and back spring. While that seems like a bad idea, the lock is pretty solid. The damascus is rather coarse compared to what we see today. I had only seen pictures of one with very little gold leaf left before I came across this one.
Thank you! It is just exquisite!

That bowie is superb! This qualifies as my grail knife, although I wouldn't turn down the chance to own a Tony Bose lockback whittler in ivory or stag, or a Henckels springer in stag. I had the same pattern without the gold leaf and damascus blade but sold it after getting this one.

Interestingly enough Mike, your knife makes in an appearance in Paul Kirchner's Bowie Knife Fights, Fighters, and Fighting Techniques.

That’s cool! Thanks for posting it. I knew a guy that carried one in his back pocket but not in Damascus.

I agree, I think a Grail knife has to be some kind of a sea-change, a decisive impact on your knife buying habits and or outlook on knives.

If I bought that Wilfred hunter from Case, there would definitely be a change in my breathing habit and my knife buying habit because my wife would cause both to stop....HA!!!;)

Anything made by GEC as I have not been able to afford one yet.
I have a #14 spear, pen, rust red jig bone bare end little Jack knife 3 inches long. You can have it if figure you would use it, and I mean use it, because it is a user. Used, sharpened, has some patina, yaknow. I find it too small, but it sure is a beaut. I got it new in August as a birthday present for myself, it can become a present to you. PM me.

Michael

P.S. As to the Grail Knife.......I've got a #78 American Jack, spear, pen on preorder. When I get that I will have all the knives I need, and they're all users. Then......a knife I don't need.......the Grail A Case/Bose coffin jack o_O

Well done Sir!

My Grail showed up in the mail. I have never even held a GEC knife and know I am the proud owner of a rust red #14 lick creek boys knife. It's a beauty. Thanks Cutfinger Cutfinger .

I don’t have a grail knife (yet). I spend enough as it is already searching and buying what I “need” to have lol. The searching never stops for that next great knife, and as is evident from the replies here, it’s the same for most of us.

For me, I’d say my grail knife will be the one knife that when I look at my collection, I’ll be able to definitively say that I’d sell all the others, except this one!

That will be the day my grail knife comes to life and it probably won’t be for a very long time.

Ok, I neglected the idea of a custom. So it'd be a reproduction of the early colonial belduque found in the SW, called the "Joe Place sword." Based on the 17th century Mediterranean dirk, it's a solid billet forged with integral bolsters and inlaid scrollwork and detail on the blade. About a 12" blade. Similar examples:

I have been fortunate to acquire a few really nice knives over the years so my knife buying urges have subsided a bit. Still tho, ive always wanted a early 70's or older stag Case trapper. I have a 1973 red bone trapper thats still functional but kinda rough.
So i guess my grail would be either an older stag or red bone Case trapper in better condition than the one i have.

Grail knife for me is Case Brothers, Springville NY small gunstock. I have only been looking for 15 years, so I'm sure eventually it will work out. The search has led me to new friendships and acquaintances.
