What is your dream forging press?

Anyone want to see a picture of the tank I made after I spent way to much of my free time modeling it?

I am interested, Mike. :)

I had a red tank once too - oops what is causing all that black smoke HOLY COW that tank ain't red it's on fire! (grin)

This is an 11 gage tank with baffle and a 1/4" plate top cover with 1/4" closed cell gasketing. The cover bolts on with 1/4-20 bolts. I have a drain in the front and 1" full couplings in the side. I will put a temp gage and a tank magnet in it.

The motor and pump will be mounted to the cover. There is also a stainer/filler in the cover. You can see the baffle if you look in the hole in the top cover on the 2nd picture.

You're scratching up that pretty red paint!!!

:D

It sure is coming along nicely Mike!

What is the advantage of a removable lid on the tank? I mean, obviously so you can take it off, but what for? Is it just so you can mount the strainer in the cover? Really showing my ignorance on that one eh :)

So are you welding all this stuff up yourself, or do you get to point and order the grunts at work? :D

I want to make sure the inside is clean and I thought it would be easier this way. The strainer mounts from the outside.

I dont order the grunts at work. I ask the grunts nicely. I used to be a certified welder but the guys that we have now are the best I have ever seen. They have been great to work with. Its amazing what someone will do for a 12 pack.:D

Do they all know what this will be used for?

I'm surprised they're not digg'n for knives out of this deal. Well, maybe they are? :)

Oh yea, did you notice the tank isn't round??? :D

I only asked on the tank because every reservoir I've ever seen was welded all the way around. But I'm usually of the opinion that anything that can be removed easily is a good thing.

Too bad I don't have any skills, I bet your shop is a really cool place to work! :D

Im sorry I missed your email, Its not my wifes fault, i usually check my email a couple times a day but lately ive been spending so much time building my press and then posting about it that I forgot to check.

I thought the point of bladeforums is to exchange ideas not complain like a bunch of old women about things that dont matter. ( no offense to old women)

Anyone want to see a picture of the tank I made after I spent way to much of my free time modeling it? Its Red. I hope no one has a problem with the color. :D

the only thing would be then don't blame her for it. make up your mind guy,
I have your e-mail blaiming her, the poor woman has enough to put up with now :footinmou :D

it was more or less OT so I put the post elsewhere. (the grinder)

1" full couplings for the intake and outlet. I thought I would leave it where it is, does it have to be strapped down at all? would the weight of it be enough to keep it in place?

I tell them its a press for making damascus and that results in a blank stare followed by the question "wheres my beer"

Anyone else having trouble attaching photos?
nope, on the URL download :)

yes, a problem with the attachments of a picture.. :grumpy:

Here is what i am going to do for the dies. The outside is .75" square bar. I will mill a relief in it to accept a tab on the front of the die plate. This will hold the front of the Die down.

The back of the die plate has 2 tabs in it that will slide into slots in a 1/4" plate offset and welded to the back of the bottom plate. This will hold the back of the die down.

The slots milled into the 3/4" bars are for any dirt that accumulates on the bottom ram plate. The idea is that the dirt will slide into the slots or push out the back when the die is slid into place. A pin will be installed into the front of the die to keep it from moving forward. The front of the die plate has a handle lasered into it for easy removal of the dies. Im hoping the hande will stay cool.
