What is your "dress up" knife?

During the holidays I took Mrs.Brv and little B1 and B2 to see a holiday show (Nutcracker - insert all jokes here - good sense of humor this one has)...

I grabbed my Salt I black blade - looked terribly hanging off my pocket so I ended up grabbing the GB1, was a little larger than I would want for dressy occasions, and so I started looking at the smaller stainless and titanium - having a hard time making a choice - some of the tattoos draw my attention, some plain SS, some Ti - what do you have?

Pics are always encouraged....

These days it's mainly a battle between my Ti-Damascus Delica and my Fluted Titanium Native 5. Having said that...my CF Caly 3 and 3.5 are always contenders, and my Chokwe and Sage 3 and 4 are also right there. If I want something a little larger as a "Dressy knife" (Thinking that there's more than decent chance that it might be used) I'll go with something larger...my Chokwe again comes to mind, but my Schempp Bowie Folder tends to edge it out in this regard. I have a few knives like my Domino, Valotton and Techno that can fulfil both dress carry and utilitarian carry IMO. Your mileage may vary.

Oddly enough (Especially that I just noticed this now) I have no Caly 3.5 photos...it's one of my older Spydies too.

The Lava is also a good suggestion.

The Caly Jr. series is discontinued but quite possibly also worth a look.

I could go on...new Worker sprint...etc etc. This is just the start lol. The many Kiwi variants and Kopa variants take the question to a whole new level.

Caly 3 cf. Don't have a pic handy, but I also polished the blade and put a shorty wire clip for an even more discrete look. I have swapped out to a black wire clip on black slacks also. I also grab my Damascus Stretch if I want a larger dress carry.

some good suggestions there!!

Thanks for the eye candy!!!

What is this one? Are those after market scales? I dig the blue - thats the one for me...I really like that one! Would be even better with the black blade!!

That's the Domino, more specifically the blue weave version (The standard has the checker pattern CF like my Sage 3). It's also a flipper, and you can't tell from this angle but it's also a framelock with the other side being titanium with no display scale. I'll see if I can't find another picture.

Not a great picture but here's the other side (It's sitting on a Manix2 LW for size comparison). If you'd like I can take some better pictures in the daylight tomorrow for you from multiple angles. I have 43 other Spydercos so if there's a model you'd like comparison shots with I might be able to oblige. I just recently installed a blue anodized deep carry titanium clip on mine.

I would be happy to see more of that model - it looks pretty large though for a dress up knife...

Sage 1, baby! Always classy, always useful. My new favorite EDC folder (okay, tied for favorite...will never get rid of my PM2). The knife is dressier than I'll ever be.

I really wish they made one with a non wire clip, I really prefer the solid ones way WAY better :-/

My favorite pocket clip of all time is the one that came on the Calypso sprint run. It's solid and securely clips the knife, but doesn't make it difficult to clip the knife to your pocket or remove it. It's also gorgeous with that brown accent on the logo.

I still love the wire clip, though. Deep carry, but still somehow easy to retrieve the knife. It's also very subtle and doesn't attract the attention of overzealous LEOs or easily frightened sheeple. My favorite thing about the wire clip is that it makes it very easy to carry the knife in a wide variety of pockets. What's not to like about it?

It's a G10 scale with a blue weave CF overlay. And they might still be available.

The standard Domino has a G10 scale with a CF overlay in the same pattern as this Sage3.

I have not seen the one you speak of - do you have a photo? Of course I am going to consult the google right now...

What I don't like about the wire is that it seems to snag on everything - more so than the solid - maybe I just have an issue walking and bumping into things...(I blame Mrs.Brv bashing me in the head each time my addiction kicks in and I buy another knife...)

That blue way sexy! I might have to hunt one of those just to add - does it carry as large as it looks? I was hoping to stay the size of my Salt I or smaller....

It carries very well (About the same as a Sage, slightly better than a Manix), though I just did a cursory check of the retailers I typically use and they all seem to be sold out of the blue weave version. If your heart is set on it you may have to rely on the secondary market. It's about the size of any of the Sage series. I don't have a Salt 1 but I do think the Salt 1 shares a handle with the Tasman Salt, and if I'm correct I can get you some sort of a comparative photo tomorrow because I do have a Tasman. The Blue Weave is very nice, but I prefer the green lightning strike carbon fiber of my Chokwe to be honest.

I have no problem carrying a PM2 or Manix 2 with dress pants. My dress pants are dark, most of my knife scales are dark, the knife blends in pretty well. If I'm wearing khakis I will pick a knife that minimizes how much sticks out of the pocket so it isn't as noticeable.

I do also carry my PM2 as a "Dressy" knife on occasion...but not as often as my Ti-Delica or Ti-native. My PM2 gets carried more at work, though it's not a bad after work option. I'll carry mine after work lots, unless I'm going to be going to a pub or some function, in which case I'll choose something dressier. At my best friend's wedding I didn't want anything conspicuous but I used my Spin as a tie clip and it worked perfectly as a tie clip and turned out to be perfect for cutting open the tops of the wine bottles. Best tie clip ever.

I like the Sage 1 or a Gale Bradley 2 for something with a little more class.

I don't like the wire clip - otherwise the Sage 1 would be an excellent one.

I should have my GB2 this weekend, so will see how much slimmer and lighter than my GB1 - it might be a good solid option as well...
