What is your favorite Becker and why?

Right now, it's still my first - a BK24.

I recently got a BK15 and have a BK5 and BK16 on their way.

But, even after working awhile with each, I'm suspecting the answer will be "The # for this, the # for that, and the # for the other." ;)

Hey Travis, why is the 24 your favorite? I am looking at one, but I am really struggling with the decision between the 14 and the 24. I am leaning towards the 24 because using my 1095 tops msk to skin out a deer, it dulled quicker than my buddies Chinese stainless knife! It was embarrassing to say the least.
But if d2 will hold an edge a good while longer (most of the abrasion resistance charts give it over double the score of o1), it would be worth every penny!

Well ...

1 - I got the 24 LNIB for the price of NIB 14. (There's only $10~$12 difference anyway.)
2 - The 24 is already 'stripped'. (Didn't like the coating on the 14.)
3 - Lure of D2

I've haven't taken it hunting yet. Comparing it to my Mora Companion HD around the yard, the Mora started out sharper but the 24 seemed to stay sharp longer.

I recall your post about your TOPS and my first thought was that its angles were probably too low. But I'm no expert and my only experience with deer is with an old SOG Ranger in AUS6 and had to sharpen it. When I first got it, I had resharpened it <40° inclusive but now think that was probably too low.

In a few days you are gonna be saying BK-16! lol

Beachmaster, what you have to understand is that the 1095 does hold a great edge but not as long as a lot of other steels, but it can be brought back to razor sharpness very easy. Just a light strop will usually do it. If it is super dull you can even use a rock to get the edge back. That Won't work with the other steels so well. That is why it is a better choice for a lot of situations. I can Guarantee that your friends knives are a lot harder to sharpen. If I was out in the field with minimal tools, I would want a knife that I can touch up the edge and not have to worry about it chipping badly if it fell and hit something hard like a rock. The fact that it dulls a little quicker is not a huge deal.

Those Chinese stainless knives would not be able to hold up under any hard use and would most likely chip if you had to baton it thu cartilage and bone on a deer. I have never had a problem using my 1095 knives to disassemble any part of a deer. No saw needed.

The D2 24 would be a great choice since it's probably somewhere in-between the two. If you want a dedicated skinner that will hold an edge for a long time, I still recommend the Ka-Bar JAB Gamestalker. It's a stainless and stays sharp and is super comfortable in the hand.

That's just my opinion thou. lol

The 5 is a great knife, but not my favorite. I love the 11/14 - it's enough knife for almost any job and can be forced to do big knife work.

But if we're talking the signature, iconic knife in this line - it's the BK2. The Becker Train Wrecker. When you need to baton through a lawnmower blade, what other choice do you have?

A few days?! Hah! Been fondling it for a whole hour now!

Just a little while ago, I was holding the 16 and 24 side-by-side, and the 24 made a lunge for the 16 and I swear I heard "B*tch!" ;)

The BK16. It is the perfect size for just about everything I would do in the field. I have modified three of them and they are comfortable for my hand, but Ethan Becker's grip design is still tops.

Ethan Becker. Such a nice fellow! opens up his house to a bunch of strangers for a very nice stay, yummy food, good times... :D

Ethan's hard to beat, but his daughter-in-law is the pretty one, and she makes a fine batch of biscuits. :p

Have used and love the 9 More than all the rest of my Beckers put together.
Just got a 16 a month or so ago and haven't really been able to use it much.
Will it replace the 9 on the top of my list? Don't know yet, but it sure is one sweet blade...

BK7...a very versatile all-round blade and lovely in the hand. Closely followed by the 10.

16. Every weekend we have a campfire. Every weekend I go to my pile of knives, and I play with each one trying to decide who gets to come out to play. Every week I think "This time I'm going to give something new a try..." and every week at the fire I reach down and pull my 16 out of it's sheath. It's not as expensive as some, or as shiny as some. The steel isn't as fancy as some, and the liners are kinda rough home made cutting board things. It just works. It's like old jeans, favorite boots, or that cracked coffee mug that you choose every time. Love my 16.
