What is your Favorite Fiddleback Forge Knife?

~ "listen Doc...I have these 3 droopy Fiddleback Forge knives...and I'm just too embarrassed to ask anyone else. Is there ANYTHING you have that can help?"

Rather than take anyone to task for anything,The Bushboot designs' alleged "droopiness" in particular, I would only offer that the form must serve an intended function in some way..I suspect there is nothing random about this design.

I mean I could be absolutely wrong..and the Bushboot was just something to toss into the fray.

"Harvesting Grapefruits," if I recall correctly...? o_O

Ed.: Ah, yes! Here, through post #42.

I am clearly not the target audience, and that's just fine.

I contend that I save both myself and others much stress by not vying/hoping for bog oak, osage orange, or Bushboot knives.

Ta da! :D

In the linked thread I only had the Patch at the time so it was my favorite. Now that I've owned a handful more and handled a whole lot more I can say that the Old School Lady Finger in 3/32 is by far my favorite. I would probably follow that with the Hiking Buddy.

OK, so the geek in me just had to tally up the responses in both threads. What stands out to me is the incredible diversity of favorites. As I counted it, there were 23 different knives listed as favorites among 34 respondants (discounting responses that listed more than one without an explanation I could easily follow).

I'm not sure what that tells me, but I speculate we have a lot of very picky users here (vs straight up collectors) with radically different preferences. That is my kind of group.

What I hope this doesn't tell me is I have to buy 23 different knives to figure it all out :)

TrainedBullets TrainedBullets What this info should have told you is that you need to make it to Trackrock, the Fiddleback User Weekend, GA Custom Knifemakers Guild Meeting and Blade Show. These events will give you the best opportunity to not only handle the best and biggest variety of what Fiddleback has to offer, you'll get to spend extended time with the folks who put them to work. Since this thread was not started as the "One Fiddleback To Rule Them All", with so many great patterns to choose from I will select a Fiddleback based off of the task at hand and how I feel at that moment. For woods bumming/bushcraft I like a 1/8 Bush Hermit, EDC its a 3/32 Sylvrfalcen, 1/8 Esquire or 3/32 Runt and my favorite utility/yard knife is my 3/32 Shaman. there are a few new ones I haven't had the chance to try out yet as well, so these comments are subject to change.

Great point! You're so right about how great it would be to attend one of those events.

Right now, the distance and time are just too problematic for me to pull that off. Hopefully things will slow down in the near future and I can do as you suggest.

I like the Bushfinger as well and for me is a profile that typically comes to mind when talking Fiddlebacks.

But to answer your question: the one with the bullseye. If that makes no sense now, give it time and it will become clear

Right now I go back and forth between the Hiking Buddy and Patch. They see the most use right now. I am hoping to get my hands on a Sylverfalcen soon, that one may just beat out the rest for my favorite.

The F2 is my current favourite. It's a small slicer I carry to complement whatever large knife / hatchet I carry. Works great on fish and mushrooms, what else could ya want out of a fiddleback?

I'm not afraid to admit...

I have no idea what you mean. Profile, bullseye....

FeralGentleman FeralGentleman can of course clarify, but what I take him to mean is:

1) Substitute "pattern" for "profile," I believe?

When thinking, "Fiddleback Forge," the Bushfinger pattern-- its size, lines, silhouette, outline, finished presentation-- comes to mind [and can stand on all its inherent merits] as the representative knife/pattern.

2) "The one with the Bullseye": FF calls their distinctive lanyard hole treatment, with inset micarta, their "bullseye." As every handmade knife features the same (with the midtech and custom shop knives sporting a non-micarta'd version), he means: YES! (Any one Fiddleback Knife. Possibly the next one.o_O)

Hope this helps. :)

She done good. I use profiles, patterns, and models interchangeably. As in you are looking at the profile, the side, of a knife where much of the distinguishing characteristics of the pattern/model come to light.

So, I'm pretty sure this picture right here needs to be on a T-shirt...
