What is your favorite (or least favorite) recurring thread or post?

- Knife battle threads. Like "which knife is better, this or that?"

- "Which knife should I get?"

- "This company vs. that company"

lessee, for me its pretty much a list of words that indicate a thread will be of dubious value:

Tanto
chisel-grind
Emerson
Strider
Cold Steel
Sebenza
others I'm sure, but these words appearing in a title make the thread worthless to me. I happen to like Emerson and Strider. Some people, though, when it comes to the above words have their heads firmly implanted up their rear and can't get beyond anything but their personal feelings about it.

Oh, and I couldn't agree more with the person who mentioned the recommendation threads that start out with a $50.00 limit. The guy has only that much to spend, and its MORE than enough to get a good, useful folder. However, w/in 5 threads the dreaded "S" word comes out. Gimme a break.

I like the "Show us what you're carrying" as long as people actually show us.

Me too, flipe8, I like the "show and tell" ones("What's in your Pocket" is or will be a classic). Anything by Coop or Murray.

Also the threads that have the "this happened to me..." story type line, then each following thread trying to go just one better. The best and/or worst of...cuts, knife buys/finds, an experience based thread...but not maker and/or manufacturer:thumbdn:.

Hey Cliff, while I was busy worshipping my Sebenza, I started remembering your interesting and pertinent discussion about the lock strength differences between a framelock Sebenza and a liner lock Strider AR and how neither one was as good a lockback Spyderco which proved that when carrying a 16th century broadsword that one should also carry a Case Congress to not scare the sheeple, which also agrees with Golnick about never using more than a pair of scissors in front of people so as to not give knife users a bad name which brings up the whole point of this thread which is why should I spend more than $12 for a knife when I can buy a flea market special from Iranistan which I'd like to have you identify if you can and let me know if I could've gotten it cheaper on E-Bay and if anyone would therefore trade me a Benchmade for 16 of these unidentifiable Iranistani specials...

Mine has to be the one that pops up in The Good,The Bad and The Ugly or the Custom Forum every so often, don't know if it's my favorite or least favorite as I quit postin' in 'em,dang,I forget now, someone help me out!:D
I know what you mean Doug :D They're getting kind of old but interesting. I think the man makes a great knife.

I really DISLIKe threads containing any of the following:

1. "What is the best folder for digging bomb shelters, cutting galvanized pipe, building log homes, and deflecting bullets . . .for under $50?" :D

2. Any "company A vs. company B"

3. Any thread where a knife is tested to destruction in absurd scenarios then criticized for it's "design flaws"

On the other hand I really ENJOY:

1. Threads that have a personal story, where a knife has come in handy.

2. Interesting mods and/or innovative tinkering with the knife itself or sheath (ranger bands, handle improvements, cord wraps etc.)

3. Any thread with nice pictures.

I really like this thread too . . .

Some that are getting very repetitve:

- Sebenza: good or bad?
- Which online dealer should I order from?
- Victorinox or Wenger?
- Plain vs serrated
- Just bought a [insert production knife designation here]
- Spyderco vs Benchmade
- Busse vs Strider
- Becker vs Swamp Rat
- How to sharpen a [insert knife designation here]
- How to use the Sharpmaker?
- How to sharpen a convex edge?
- Hollow vs saber/flat grind
- Best knife?
- Toughest fixed blade?
- Best fixed blade?
- Strongest folder?
- Biggest folder?
- Best folder?
- Best EDC?
- Recommend a good bowie knife
- Best assisted opener?
- Axis lock or framelock?
- Are liner locks unreliable?
- Micarta or G-10?
- Best blade steel?

yea i never understand those how to use a sharpmaker threads....it comes with an easy to understand instructional dvd watch the damn thing

The blade steel ones are getting annoying. REALLY annoying, isn't there a sticky someplace?

I like anything with lots of pictures. But then, I'm easily amused.

I have to agree with some earlier posts that the worst ones are the ones like "why do people freak out when I use my 12" hunting knife to clean my finger nails on the city bus?"

Most of the kinds of threads I hate have already been listed. I particularly dislike those whiney posts about whether or not Sebenzas are "worth it". You don't like the Sebenza? Fine, nobody gives a shit. In fact, we're happy if you don't buy one, 'cause that makes more for the rest of us.

My favorite threads? Cove porn, of course! ;)

Not like:

Any thread where the poster could have had their question answered if they had just looked at the THREAD DIRECTLY BELOW THEIR OWN and all similar numb-nutery.

Why don't use companies use s30v?

Any post that says benchmade x32whatever is the answer, Since that's said at least as often as a sebenza. :p

Any one that starts with "Hey, Cliff..."

Those are my least favorite threads as well. :thumbdn: :grumpy:

Among my favorites are good, honest, realistic reviews of a new knife (Artfully Martial posted a nice review of the D'Allara Drop Point recently, for example), and pictures of people's knives and/or collections.

Among my least favorites... Well, those have pretty much all been pointed out already, so I'm not going to talk about that part.

Peace.
Alex.

Favorites, probably the EDC threads, or 'show us your collection' threads, or any thread with old school slippies in it!

Least favorite: '2000th (or whatever) post, what should I waste it on!'.

or, "Sharpmaker, Edgepro, or Lansky...what do you recommend?" Obviously, everyone that loves the SM is going to say it's the greatest, that the others are crap, etc.

Finally, the 'I just found this knife in a pile of poop in the back yard. What's it worth?' The guy ends up with a total of 2 posts: the question, and then the 'thanks' (if any)
