What is your favorite SAK?

The picture of the black pioneer,pushed me over the edge.I just ordered a back up for my back up.Pioneers are great knives.

The alox Cadet has recently skyrocketed in popularity and I understand that it offers a lot of bang for the buck and size. However I prefer models with the combo tool in order to shave off some thickness from the regular arrangement of can opened and cap lifter on one layer. Because of this I have models like the Bantam (alox and cell), the GAK, and the Compact (which I believe to be the finest SAK out there except for the antiquated parcel hook.) That doesn't stop me from accumulating classic versions like the Pioneer and Farmer, but those don't see as much use.

In day-to-day life, though, my most used and appreciated models are the wee keychain versions (surprising nobody.) I had an alox SD Classic that I recently swapped out in favor of an alox Minichamp. This little beast does everything and more...I have used the miniscule Philipps to put together Ikea furniture, lift many a cap, peel many an orange, push back many a cuticle...and it keeps on ticking. What a great little tool.

Been carrying the Marlboro Trail Guide a lot lately and it's a great slim EDC SAK. :thumbup:

The Victorinox Explorer Plus is jam packed with utility. I love the phillips that folds out 180 degrees like God intended, and the magnifier and pen get frequent use. At 4 layers its a little thick in the pocket, but a real man you can handle it. There are others that I love too, including the Compact and Rambler/Manager, the the Explorer Plus is about as good as it gets.

The tinker is so in credibly handy to have on you all the time. By far my favorite knife. Although I would love to get my hands on a alox. Pioneer or the carver looks right up my ally as well.

Not that there's anything wrong with silver, and I like it, but do they ever come out with different colored SAK Pioneers?

Pioneer is available in black and red as regular items I believe. Other colors are special runs available from a few shops and they tend to command pretty high prices. There is a great bright green available right now but at over 2x the price of the standard colors I just can't justify it. I love my black Pioneers.

I did order the orange far,er pictured in this thread, that as available for a much smaller premium over the regular colors and I felt it was a decent option since I love orange.

The one I want the most, a white Scientist, probably one of the rarest models out there.

I only have one SAK - a Farmer - and I love it. It's got all the tools I could need in a remarkably slim and handsome package. The quality is outstanding needless to say.

I have one of those and have to agree that it's a great edc sak. My most carried sak these days is a Classis but my favorite is the Fieldmaster. I really prefer the cellidor models to the Alox ones.

just like the pioneer, but with the bail instead of a key ring which i completely prefer
yes you have to be careful about closing your blade or you'll hit the bail, which i have done once when i first got it
but the key ring is placed in such a way as to dig into my palm

But i prefer having a method of securing the knife if necessary so grinding the key ring off just sort of pushes me off the idea

thats the simple, honest to God reason i prefer the SI to the pioneer
strange that such a simple difference makes such a difference to me

The Farmer and Pioneer are nice but I don't carry them either - I just like them.

I don't carry SAKs on a regular basis although I have several. I carry a Leatherman in a sheath on my belt.

A Cadet stays in my car, primarily cause it's hard to reach in my pocket when driving, and the file is useful, too.

My favorite, though, is the Electrician. I wish they made it in other colors of alox besides the silver. Good tools, but the sheepfoot makes this the winner.
