What is your favorite SAK?

I did not know my question would get so many replies. All of your pictures and stories are going to make my wait that much harder.

Probably my most fav is the Executive had it the longest of any knife I own, so that says something, but recently I picked up the black alox Cadet, that rides along every day with the Executive but as of Friday, this one has muscled into the fray and probably for me one of the better one, the SAK Electrician as a lot have commented in, it's very nice, had one a long time ago and gifted it to a friend, and on Friday, I had this one gifted to me from Ken aka harronek from down under, nice sir! So I took the opportunity to snap a photo of her tonight. The small sheepsfoot/wire stripper is quite handy but the Awl does a lot of work too !!
Thanks again Ken !

Been eyeing these Alox SAKs for a while. The pics here finally pushed me over the edge. Just pulled the trigger on an Electrician and a Cadet :D

During my early ARNG years I carried three different SAK's with the plastic handles (two red, one PX model in Woodland camo), one was gifted to an Italian Army Officer. Two are still in drawers at home and get occasional use, but I never warmed up to the soft snaps. Last year I came across an ALOX SAK in a pawnshop - it was cheap enough for me to take a chance on it. The ALOX SAK's are the knife a SAK should have always been - positive snaps along with a sturdy blade and tools - a great knife and the equal in quality to my favorite USA brands. OH

I break up the dizzying array of SAKs into 3 categories by size:
a) small enough to fit on a key chain or watch pocket
b) just right for pocket carry
c) so big that they need to go on your belt or in your pack.

In the first category, I would restrict my attention to the ALOX scales, especially if you are carrying on key chain. I never got more than 2 years of use from Classics on my key chain and have never worn out a Leatherman Micra. Actually... my recommendation in this category is to just get a Micra. I carry mine in my LFP to augment a folding knife (normally an Opinel).

In the "too big for pocket carry" category, again, I prefer a Leatherman style multi-tool. SAKs in that size range just don't appeal to me. For me, 3 layers is when I start to find the SAK's too thick and heavy, depending on the knife.

ATMO, SAKs hit their sweet spot in the classic camper sized range. Which set of tools you carry depends a lot on your lifestyle. I like having the tools on my Micra and would seek to replicate them. Scissors for me are a must and I have no need for corkscrews and can openers. The only right answer here is what works best for you.

Just a useful tidbit of info, if you had to.

thanks mate -i've put that in the vault for the next handcuffs call we get-and we get them now and then.:D

I treasure the knives in my small selection of SAKs for various reasons of history, friendship, and/or nostalgia, but know that this one will not be topped from here on out:

Thanks again, pmew! What a glorious, abiding surprise. :)

... Having this Classic on my key reminds me all over again that a Classic was all I carried for the better part of two decades, and in truth is usually all I need day-to-day.

Sssssssshhhhhh.

My favorite for EDC on my keychain is the Manager. I have an Alox Rambler too, but I find the tweezers useful and I like having a pen with me, even though it doesn't get used very often. I keep a Rescue in the car which has full sized screwdrivers as well. In my bag at work, I carry a Victroinox Delemont EvoWood Nail Clip 580 that I find useful and it replaces a Wenger Nail Clipper AT which is now reserved for travel as it is discontinued. When I want to carry a SAK other than the Manager, I like the Small Tinker since it offers the tools I would use most frequently in a small, light knife. Just for good measure I have various other knives that I like, but they don't get carried over these other models. The Alox Farmer is a classic and I'd like to get a Scientist.

Definitely the Swisschamp. I have been using one as EDC for few years now and it comes in very handy. A little big and heavy but the belt pouch serves wonders.
