This is my debut in this forum so Hello Everyone ,
My favourite EDC is the
FRN Native SE- it's light, strong, w versatile handle, premium qulity steel- premium good heat treatment(!); although I like to carry them in pairs. As a "backup" for the Native, I usually choose the Matriarch or SE Military. Well, that's for sumertimes shorts.
I'm intend to write a review about such pairs of EDC knives, if you, forumities are interested in such a theme.
I do appreciate Mr.Perrin's statement in conjunction w SE knives, I really do. As I know he prefers plain edge over serrated for a hundred thousand good reasons. It's o.k. At least when we're talking about fix blades.But. There is always a "but". In my bag there's always a SAK at least w saw&scissors. If I'm outdoors in my backpack there's a bigger PE hunting knife (I prefer Hattori or Fallkniven S1) as well as a triangle sharpmaker from Spyderco.
EDC-EveryDayCarry Knife. The one that can save your life even in an urban situation, even w such little things, than cut a wire or line or fabrics like safety belt or savage animals like dogs- I really like them, but sometimes they attack people in herd around towns . Sometimes under water on a little sailing boat. It has to be strong, reliable, one hand operable. One of my friends had to cut a padlock down, 'cause he'd lost the key. He has (still has!) an old SS 60/40 SE/PE Provenator- one of the best of old time Spydies. Well,of course we had to resharpen the knife but managed to open the door within 40 minutes w/o a prybar. I really don't know whether we could do that w a plain edged one. Another friend of mine cut a dog's leash of an old lady in a second w a 50/50 Starmate (my favourite Spyderco as well), when the moving staircase got the leash - saving the poor animal at the suburban railway. One time I had to cut a doormat in two. I had a little Benchmade w plain tanto style blade. I din't manage to do that.I sold the knife.
Since then I don't leave w/o serrations.
Just one last thing from a newby: The serrations on your EDC'd be at least 3 Spyderco sequence long- but that's an other story.
