I had a simmilar experience at school, I was gently using the cheapy tap wrench and it breaks. Steel grains were like coarse sand. Of course my teacher blamed me for it, saying that not every body can buy snap-on everthing... etc...
My favourite tools are probably:
-sharp pencils
-plane iron (just the blade)
-cabinet scraper (I love the simplicity of this tool)
-table saw
-even though I don't own a lathe or milling machine, I love the sound a sharp cutter makes when it sloshes through coolant drenched shavings of steel
