What is your favorite tool in the shop..?

I had a simmilar experience at school, I was gently using the cheapy tap wrench and it breaks. Steel grains were like coarse sand. Of course my teacher blamed me for it, saying that not every body can buy snap-on everthing... etc...

My favourite tools are probably:
-sharp pencils
-plane iron (just the blade)
-cabinet scraper (I love the simplicity of this tool)
-table saw
-even though I don't own a lathe or milling machine, I love the sound a sharp cutter makes when it sloshes through coolant drenched shavings of steel :).

As a followup to my earlier post, here's a few pics of the hammer I'm waiting to aquire. This one was a special custom build. 160lb head, 20:1 anvil:ram ratio. I was lucky enough to have John invite me down to his shop to give it a test run before it went to its new home. I took a 4" long piece of Don's W-2 down to a reasonable bar in 6 heats...would have been 4, but I was farting around a little....Then John emailed me later and said he readjusted it and got a LOT more power out of it....

The man who makes them also tests them. Take note of the base plate...that's 5" thick solid plate!

That ones easy, My Sea Robin Anvil!!!!!!! I wouldnt take nothing for it!!! I had some really nice anvils but none fit me like the Chuck Robinson did.

Charlie,
Now just to put it on that plate we gave you. It will be really nice then. Glad I was able to meet you at Batson's. I think my favorite piece of equipment in my shop is my 2.5lb crosspein hammer by Nathan Robertson. I redid the handle on it to fit my hand and I feel a lot better when I am using it. I just like hammers I guess.
