Rewind back a year ago and I was one that really did not like Wharncliffe style blades. Since then I have grown to carry one as an EDC almost every day of the week. They utility of the blade style fits what I use a traditional knife for very well.

I have built up a small pile that includes GEC 62s, a coupld Case Sway Back Jacks, Case/Bose Northfolks, and even a Case Seahorse. At this point I'm looking for a custom which will probably be a swayback style.

What are your favorites?

And of course a picture.....

I think these are my favorite patterns with Wharncliffe Blades,
They're both great patterns and an easy carry...

well i only have one, a sbj. i dig the blade shape. it's easy to sharpen and it makes a good utility blade. i would love to get a case norfolk and GEC's wharncliffe trapper.

I don't care for single blade knives with a standard wharncliffe blade...(though I'm fine with a modified wharncliffe or "zulu")...but I like 'em plenty when they're paired with a clip blade:

The knife in my avatar by Bret Dowell is my favorite wharncliffe (and only custom wharncliffe).

Soon I'll be getting a Norfolk from Rick Menefee and I have a feeling it might be my new favorite.

Tom I'm in the same boat. When I first saw a Wharncliffe blade I wasn't a fan and couldnt imagine owning one. The more I looked the more I began to really appreciate the aesthetics of a nice swayback. At this point I would say it's my favorite blade shape in a custom slipjoint.

I can't pick just one. All of these and more find their way into my pocket. I'm a big fan of the wharncliffe blade.

Wow! Great customs and quite a few to think about. Nathan, that Menefee Sway Back Jack really looks great!

This isn't a traditional wharncliffe because the edge has a very, very slight curve, but it's my favorite by far.

That's a tough one, as the vast majority of my contemporary traditionals are Wharncliffes.

I've never cared for Wharncliffes with a long, straight spine that runs parallel to the edge before abruptly curving down to meet the point like a narrow sheepsfoot; too boxy. I like 'em to have a continuous flowing curve from tang to point.

I'd have to go with Hiroaki Ohta's take on the pattern - there's something about the high-shouldered curving proportions, bevel grind and bold thickness taper that just looks and feels 'right' to me, though his swedges can be a bit understated.

Ohta's modified Wharncliffe is nice too (shown on the friction folder). Funny thing is, if you turn it upside-down it looks like your garden variety drop point with a subtle recurve. :)

Thank you sir, I was fortunate enough to grab it off the exchange in the makers forum. I had misplaced it a few months ago and recently found it so it's been getting a lot of pocket time as my way of appologizing :D

I agree there are some beautiful knives in this thread already, and Gary that Chamblin WT is lights out gorgeous! Aaaaand I'm pretty sure and Ohta is in my near future
