What is your favorite Wharncliffe bladed knife?

Not my pic, but it's the only one I have at this point, and the only traditional wharnie I have. Mine is my recently acquired 2-blade Joel Chamblin Trapper on the bottom.

I've never cared for Wharncliffes with a long, straight spine that runs parallel to the edge before abruptly curving down to meet the point like a narrow sheepsfoot; too boxy. I like 'em to have a continuous flowing curve from tang to point.

I believe GEC's Wharncliffe blades are as you describe Rick -- "long straight spine that runs parallel to the edge before abruptly curving down to meet the point"

Very nice Ohta knives by the way.

My favorites are (sorry no pictures, I am at work) Scagel Fruitport, Case Swayback and my 2009 Forum Barlow. For years I thought they were pretty useless, Now they are amoung my favorites. Steven

My favorite Wharncliffe bladed knife that I own is this GEC Furtaker Trapper in antique amber bone.

I hope Bastid won't mind me posting my favorite of his (or anyone else's!), by Ryu Kawamura.

Ed what's that I've never seen it before?! ;):D I bet .025 seconds after you snapped off that pic it was back in your pocket

I agree, for the most part, though IMO, GEC's #62 Wharncliffe profile is a big improvement aesthetically over some of their earlier efforts, particularly in the swedge department.

Thanks, Ed. :)

Nathan, I find it hard to believe you haven't seen that before. I do really like the knife; it is my favorite small pocket knife pattern. Just in case you weren't funnin me, it is a Case mini copperhead in amber bone. - Ed J

Ed I was just kiddin but I have to say I enjoy seeing the knife every time. It's a classic and the bone on yours is just perfect. I picked up this little Queen a while back to try out the pattern but I gotta say I still like yours better than mine...knife envy is a terrible thing :p

Awesome knives in this thread. I'm particularly envious of the Ohtas, as I've been chasing one for over a year.

Here is a pic of my most used warnie (top) next to my favorite one (bottom).

I have a kind of love/hate relationship with warnies: cosmetically, its my favorite blade shape, but I find a blade with some belly much more useful. Nonetheless, I carry this blade type often. Here are some of the ones that I have:

I don't care for single blade knives with a standard wharncliffe blade...(though I'm fine with a modified wharncliffe or "zulu")...but I like 'em plenty when they're paired with a clip blade:

Couldn't have said it better myself, and that Coats has been my favorite Warncliffe blade since you first posted it here.

Why thank you, Stu. It was a fun project with Ken Coats and it came out wonderfully well (if I do say so myself.)

There's actually a very slight upsweep (belly) at the tip of the "modified" wharncliffe.
