What is your idea of the ideal 7"-9" blade

I like my RD7 & Busse HR:

Does anybody know if Justin at Ranger Knives makes more of a drop point and not a clip point? Not as much a function issue. It is just more pleasing to my eye than the clip point.

I've yet to get a knife from Jason, but I know that he will do pretty much anything you want. I've talked with him about having some custom knives done in the past and he is great to work with.

I like my RD-7 and, although its a little short of the posted length at 6.5", my Busse ASH-1 LE.

Justin will make anything you want. He is one of the easiest people in the busseness to deal with. Prompt at awnsering questions, very good prices for custom work, and a super nice guy. I would highly reccomend his work to anyone. My Ranger knives are some of the toughest, best value knives I have ever owned.

Thanks for all the input. I may have to talk to Justin about a custom creation.

I e-mailed him a while back and I think he charged about an extra $30 for one of his older drop point style blades. His prices may have risen a little since then but you are still getting a lot of knife for your money !!!

I did a lil' work on this Chopweiler... bent up a sheath...

It is one awesome piece of steel!

In the big sizes I have a Project I and a Trail Master so far but the one I lust for now is the Gossman Tusker.

So long to wait though... :(

At 10 inches and $120, the Browning Barker is a good value - 1085, micarta, convex, tapered tang. I used it chop probably close to 50 cardboard boxes yesterday, just for fun, and I could still shave my legs with it - in a manly way of course :)

But then my BK7 would still feel like the big man in town! I just love the Becker Neckers. I'll be interested to see if the Brute comes back through Ka-Bar.

It was posted that Ethan says the BK9 is a better blade so they'll make that. Sounds like that's it for the brute. :(

Well, for a blade that large, my RD9 is the only one I still own. I was clearing out earlier this year and sold off most of my big blades. But you cant go wrong with A RD9. I like Scott Gossman's large Tusker too. Very solid knife.

If you're going up to 7 or more inches, its a mid to large knife IMO, and it has to be able to do stout jobs like chopping. Its not a finess knife at all, so you've got to pair it with something that can do fine cutting.

JMHO.

I aggree with this, but I have a friend who uses his SP8 for everything, doesnt carry a small blade. I have watched him make tinder sticks from matches with it.... amazing to see the skill with such a big blade.
