What is your idea of the ideal 7"-9" blade

Tony here are some details as posted by Michael Burch a few years ago:

"The knife is designed to be an all around heavy-duty camp/combat knife that is comfortable to use for a variety of tasks. The handle is long (about six inches from the butt to the front of the scales) so you can easily chop with it, or choke up for fine work. The choil gives even more room to choke up and it trails into the edge so material won't be caught in it. A checkered thumb-ramp is placed right were your thumb would naturally lay and all edges are smoothed over except for the spine for those of you that like to smack firestarters.

The handles can be removed for cleaning, and possibly for storage if needed They are also recessed a bit at the butt to allow for driving in tent stakes or whatnot without damaging the handle scales."

Specs:
1/4" L6 steel
Hollow ground spear point
KC gun coated
6 3/4" cutting edge
7 or so inch handle
removable g10 scales with birch bark pattern
kydex with tek lock

my favorite is a toss up between my Becker BK1 "Brute" and my Chopweiler, only pics of chopweiler are old ones...

Hey Tony, where did you get this sheath?

By the way, did you receive the Becker yet?

not yet on becker , the Survival sheath I picked up on the for sale section ...I have about 5,these are my favorite sheaths...

well, I guess I never really considered cetain sized knives better at fine work than others.
I think it's more about ergos and edge geometry.

anyways!
I have an rd9 and once I thinned the edge out (you can just ask justin to do this before you order) i realized how great of a knife it really is.

something I've always kinda liked (just form looking) was having two kind of different grinds.
one thinner grind near the choil for fine work, and a normal utility edge for chopping.
anyways, if you are going to be using it for chopping and splitting and other "camp" chores I would go with an rd9. (or rd7 for that matter)
Justin can pretty much do anything you want to it.
or he could just make you a completley custom knife.

The old style Swamp Rat Knife Works "Camp Tramp" with the res-C handle is my favorite camp knife in this size range. It is a bit heavy for back packing, but as a camp knife it excels. It can cut, dig, poke, be used with a baton, used in the winter without freezing to your hand, and is a great chopper. Mostly I use it as a food chopper, when in the field I cook more stews or Chinese style dishes where finesse cutting is not necessary, and I usually do not slice the meat or remove the bones. I have used the flat of the blade as a stake hammer, and it has stood up well.
