What is your ideal EDC Multitool?

Sog Powerlock- Old Style.

During the winter months, I often carry the SOG, BUT the only multi that I guarantee WILL be on me is the cheapo Winchester that I keep in my jacket as a stash/back-up/I don't have anything else on me item.

I have several multitools, but none of them is ideal.

The multitool which fits my needs best is the Victorinox Spirit.

I need both a pliers and scissors and want the blades to open from the outside without clumping. The tool must be lightweight enough so that I can carry it comfortably in a belt holster while carrying other gear.

The next best fit multitool is the Victorinox SwissTool X. It is heavier than the Spirit so I don't carry it as often.

I carry one of the new-style Leatherman Wave as my EDC multitool....One of these days I'm going to have to get something alittle smaller & lighter, but just as strong.

I have a SwissTool for my EDC. It is a high-quality, easy-to-tote adjunct to my Surefire and SAK. My substitute standards are either the Gerber Sport 400, or Suspension depending on circumstances.

I would like something with the plier from a SOG powerplier in a case like the leatherman wave with linerlocks for the big blades that you should be able to open with one hand. The smaller tools should use the lockingsystem you could find on a victorinox swisstool.

Made a cad model of this tool a while ago and this is how it could look.

The perfect EDC is now presented for you: A LM Skeletool in right front pocket and a VIC Classic SD in the left front pocket. Then you got nice pliers, OH knife, Screwdrivers, small scissors, toothpich and nailfile. What elese do you need? (I work in an office in a city so I don´t need a saw that much). To fix things around the house I use a Charge or a VIC Locksmith (wich are to big and heavy for EDC).

That's a very good setup. Trim but powerful. Change the Classic to a Signature and you will have a pen whenever you need one. Add a Photon Freedom Micro flashlight and you will be ready for just about anything.

as of today I would have to say my brand new Leatherman Skeletool. MY EDC tool up to now has been my 1986 vintage Leatherman tool.

After a long time of carrying the gerber recoil (it broke) I went to buy a leatherman sideclip only to learn they had been discontinued.

I got on the trusty trade boards and scored a couple...

Got one in my back pocket right now.

Small, Light, no need for a belt sheath. I like it alot.

:D

My work EDC is the Leatherman Charge TTI... My playtime EDC is the smaller and lighter Victorinox Timekeeper which is a vic compact with an analog watch...

Over here, I carry my Gerber Compact Sportsman multi-tool, a SAK (usually a Farmer), and my Case 6344SS medium stockman. If I need a locking blade, either an older Benchmade Mini-AFCK, or my Benchmade Mini-Ares Stryker Auto.

When I'm at home, I carry a Leatherman Kick, and a SAK and/or one of my more traditional pocketknives, like my vintage Knives Model 1902 Moose.

I carried a now apparently discontinued model made for or by Buck, for right at 10 years. Unfortunately, after I retired, I carried it in the door pocket of my pickup, and abut six months ago, while the truck was having the aftermarket Burglar Alarm system worked on, the slimy SOB Tech decided he deserved it, and it is gone. Really, have no need of one now, but it sure did often come in handy for simple bicycle repairs and adjustments, so rather than invest the money for another decent quality unit, bought a couple of the China LM copies for total of $10. I have not made a diligent search, but in just casual looking, have not seen the Buck model offered for years, so maybe they did not sell many of them, but it was comfortable to use, and did every thing I ever asked of it. Also recently bought a combination pack of a Winchester branded multi tool plus a fair quality sheath knife, but both were made in China, so of not much actual value, if you need to use it hard.
It is a shame that we have lost most of our old names such as Shrade and Gerber to selling imported mostly junk. I like others treasure my now rather old but made in the USA Camilius, Gerber, and all of the Shrade in house brands, but know those days are long gone, and more than likely not to be repeated.

I have a Gerber that I bought when they first came out (1989ish). I've used it but have never been enamored with it. I recently bought a SOG Powerlock which seems to be pretty well made.
