What is your ideal EDC Multitool?

Leatherman surge (Sorry guys I just love all the junk I never use on it) It also keeps me anchored when the wind blows at 60mph here in west Texas.

I don't really have an "ideal" multitool because none incorporates all the features that might be needed in various circumstances. Also, time moves on and technology changes. For example, I come across fewer slotted screws that need attention than decades ago (I'm an old guy), so those screwdrivers get less use, likewise cap lifters and can openers. I still need them, but not so much than back when. OTOH, one hand opening tools with pocket clips, unknown the day before yesterday (more or less) are features I just can't do without these days (how did I ever?). I got along happily for years with a Leatherman Super Tool, then a Core, but now a Surge is my first choice in a full size EDC. I still like my several SAKs, especially a Vic Champ, which goes with me whenever travelling, and a Rambler for the amenities not included on Leathermen. So now I got lots of stuff and, in my old age, have became a goddam hobbyist. Or pack rat.

Beware, all! It can happen to you! Let my sorry example be your warning.

Depending on the day's activity or mood, either a Leatherman Crunch (vice-grips are always useful), Surge (hard to beat the Wave or Surge), or Skeletool (min kit).

Stockman242--Not often enough, but when I escape the office I go your route.

Hmm. Folding pliers. One hand opening modified sheepsfoot like on a Mini-Grip, locking. Locking skinny fillet blade, locking blunt-end blade with serrations like on my Vic Helmsman, non locking Wharncliffe.

Phillips, flathead, bottle opener, sciccors, fork, awl, saw.

Believe it or not, but my ideal EDC multi-tool is the Leatherman Micra.

It really is a well thought out little tool.
And because of its compact size I can carry it no matter what I'm wearing.

Mine is what I carry everyday, Leatherman Surge w/ the bitset and a couple extra saw blades in the sheath on my belt and a Vic Farmer dummy-corded to my belt loop.

Love the Supertool. It's too bad the Core isn't nearly as good.

Slowly he turned...

Actually, I carried a Super Tool for 9 years, used it a bunch, was enough satisfied with it I never even looked for an upgrade or replacement. When I got around to handling a Core, however, it was clearly enough of an upgrade that I retired the Super Tool and went for the newer Leatherman instead.

The Core is basically an improved Super Tool that retains the basic tools and layout of the original, but the blades and implements are much easier to pull out, unlock, don't clump (mostly), about as fast to deploy as multitools with closed handle access, partly because it can be done with the flat of my thumb or with gloves on, and the handles are much more comfortable when death gripping the pliers.

There have been changes in its construction that some think have lessened the quality. Honestly, I'm not sure if I agree, but that's something tested with use over time. So far, my Core has functioned as well as the Super Tool.

Charge TTI for me i just fell in love with that knife blade, it is the best i have seen on a multitool so far.

I use a Core and understand that it replaced the Supertool and carries all the same tools, but I'm still not convinced that the steel on the Core (on the new Leathermans all together) is as good as the originals. It dulls faster on the blades and the cutters chip on the same wires that I used the originals to cut. The plastic implements don't bother me. Just the steel quality. Bad heattreat. I'm not going to pass it off on that quite yet. Honestly, my PST handles better and longer the same jobs as my Core.

A Juice CS4 or Vic Farmer with a County Comm mini pry bar on the side.

If you get lucky you can go to pawn shops and get Supertool 200's for 20.00 to 30.00 dollars.
