what is your opinion is the best hard use folder

get a spyderco endura, para2/military, or gayle bradley. if you using it like a knife these will last a lifetime. also if they do break or are lost you wont break the bank replacing them. i also have found that a case canoe can work just as hard as my modern folders. trapper too. that zt-hinder flipper also looks like its ready for the end of days

While my XM-18 is quite literally a folding prybar, I feel it would have been cheaper to buy an actual folding prybar and put a sharpened edge on that:thumbup:.

I would put Andrew Demko or Rick Hinderer on top for customs. For productions a ZT or Cold Steel with the Tri-Ad lock would be very good for the money. GOOD lUCK! KEVIN

How come no one mentioned about “Three sisters forge”. The “BEAST” is definitely a tank of folder.

Just buy a Hinderer. . . Your done.

Don't have one personally, the the Crusader Forge knives are pretty tough as well.

It's possible that my Benchmade Skirmish 630 BK1 and/or my Spyderco Manix C95 could have been used just as hard and held up but the folder that I've used the most/hardest for camping (and other outdoor activities) often in place of a fixed blade is the Ontario Hossom Retribution 1.

It's like a Ti framelock with scales, fits my hand like a custom and can be used for very long periods of time with no hot spots. I find that the N690 steel takes a keen edge and holds it very well and even after years of hard use this knife works as well today as the day I bought it.

At 10.5" long and 10.6 oz the Ontario Hossom Retribution 1 is truly a beast.

The Retribution 1 is a monster no doubt.

I've mostly gotten over the thick blade/prybar appeal on knives... mostly.

Some video's on youtube showed a few cut tests with a Hinderer xm-18/Reeve Sebenza/Spyderco/Strider and you can clearly see that the thicker blades had more trouble cutting. He was cutting a tire and most people won't cut anything outside of boxes but It quickly changed my interest in a prybar knife.

My current work folder is a Blackhawk Cruciable II, and I have worked it fairly well over the last two years and it comes back for more.
I've replaced it a few times with other knives (it is kind of heavy), but have always come back to it.
Only cost me about $65 shipped.

i got my paramilitary 2 love it, but it seems so delicate in hand... no Emerson recommendations????? are they not all there built up to be?? and i looking at the rick hinderer blades man those are nice.. whats the average price on them..?? if anyone knows
thanks all for ur opinions!!

i would love to own a strider one day but that is a little to out of my price range:grumpy:

Agreed, I love my thick, tank-like folders that still manage to cut fairly well but it was an eye opening experience when I recently bought and started using the A.G. Russell Acies. The knife has a thinner blade (of ZDP-189) than most of my favorite folders yet it cuts so much better than any other knife I own. I'm still going to buy more beefy folders, gotta love those Titanium framelocks but I will be carrying the Acies as my EDC.

I have beat the heck out of my Victorinox Trekker. It asks for more and more. You can pry with the large or small screwdrivers and make a space with the awl. Cheap, easy money.

I know this is crazy talk, but consider shifting your paradigm, and prying with a pry bar instead of a folder. No one will think less of you. One can experience a deep sense of inner calm by using tools within their design parameters. I'm just saying. :)
LOL, maybe a folding pry bar with a knife edge grind on the inside?:)

+1 on the Ontario Retribution 1 mentioned by KLJ.

A new knife I received yesterday, Lion Steel SR-1, appears to have the characteristics of this type folder. A thick spine blade of .187", titanium framelock, and a monoblock handle that can not twist apart. Of course it is not the least expensive knife around.

Oh believe me, the Lion Steel SR-1 is on my short list.
Beautiful knife, Congratulations!
