What is your opinion of TOPS knives?

Okay, I guess you told me... Now tell us what it is about TOPS knives you don't like.

They do have a different way about promoting and selling their knives. I see nothing wrong with it. Every one of my questions or concerns has been addressed. Yes some of their designs appear unorthodox, but there may be someone out there that has a legitimate use for it. The quality in material and build is there. Some say a little costly for low tech steels. Personally I have seen some of my desired models for reasonable prices when I internet shopped around.

So does anyone even know if there is a top of the line model from Tops?
Anyone looking at a Top's advertisement must surely be equally confused as to where exactly Tops specialty lies.
Take it from the top...

They do have other steels .I just ordered a folder with N690Co, so I can try out that steel.

Look at the TOPS website (http://topsknives.com) if you want to learn more, not their ads. In terms of their higher end stuff, they offer several models in damascus steel that are quite pricey, but I don't have direct experience with those. The DART is one of the few models in S30V, so that might also be considered "top of the line" if you want to take a look at that.

I have the original Hoffman Harpoon, would like to try out the other 2 varieties of it and the Pasayten Light Hunter, but that is about all. The Harpoon came with an edge that would not cut paper it was so thick, after MUCH sharpening I got it down to a useful edge, but nothing to write home about!

The trail mate looks really nice too me, and so does the blue otter.

But they do seem over prices, and the grinds are kind of wierd sometimes.

The names in bold on the side of the blade aren't really appealing to be either, except for blue otter with a blue otter, that is beastley, make it in 154cm, or some uncoated nice stainless and I'd buy it.

I only have their Street Scapel. Its a keeper. The Cobra,Devils Elbow,The Grim Ripper.Such cool names and yes I am a ninja, commando nerd.I would love to have the 3 I listed above.Or I should have put this in "Dirty Little Knife Secrets".

Hi all,

On the topic of TOPS, Does anyone have any experience with the Tracker or Tracker Mini?

haha well thats another thing people have a divided opinion about. i have heard great things about them and the one i handled was rock solid and felt great in my hand.

I just got a TOPS TSK (tactical steak knife) and it is well built and fit and finish is great. Alot of thought went into this one. It is going to be my EDC.

People whine about TOPS prices, but their prices are high ONLY if you buy from them direct. You can buy most of the line at other places on-line for about half to two-thirds.

I have a TOPS Steel Eagle 107e and it's one of my favorites. Nice and heavy, and the handle is excellent:

When TEOTWAWKI comes I'm grabbing my Steel Eagle. Buy a TOPS and don't look back.

They are American made, if this matters to you.
Fit and finish is a step up from ESEE/RAT, enough of a step up to justify the price IMO. They are very nicely made. I wish some of my higher end knives were as well finished.

They specialize in 1095, and it shows. They have it nailed. So does ESSE by the way.

They do have some over the top, silly designs. What manufacturer doesn’t? Ignore those and you will see some very sound architecture in their lineup.
