What is your "pet peeve" when it comes to knives?

yes, and there's no denying the fact, whatever their used for at the moment.
@ A_blade_aficionado: knives have been used as weapons for millenia. you actually mean they were wrong and that they were actually using tools?
Bladeforums used to be a refuge from people like you.

Ok, I have a new one, and its not just regarding knives, but certainly related to them. Our stupid, primitive and outdated system of measures. When I look at knives in a catalog or on websites, what good does it do me to know that the blade thickness is .164 inches???? I have no idea, no point of reference for how thick that is.

You tell me its 4 mm, I know immediately, I can picture it in my mind. 1/18 of an inch? What the heck does that even mean?? :jerkit:

I wish my backwards bumpkin country would step into the 20th century already. After all, it is the 21sy century now!! :grumpy:

I hate how everyone automatically assumes 1095 steel is a complete rust magnet. Anything doing to outdoor use or use around water 1095 is written off because "it rusts." Yeah, if you leave it in a bucket of salt water for a few days and let it chill on your patio table it'll rust, but if you perform normal maintenance every once in a while, like you would on stainless knives anyway, you don't even have to worry about it.

I agree. My pet peeve is when specs aren't given in metric! Base 10, people, Base 10!

Metric for temperature.
Imperial for height, weight, length and thickness.
Seriously, someone tells me they weigh 74 kilograms...okay, what the hell does mean in real units?:p

People who buy a +$200 knife. Then start telling everyone, "How much better their knife is...". We all know that a knife that cost that much is made of better steel, and the like. It is just poor manners.

do you truly believe that? id like to hear your definition of "better"...i m yet to be dissapointed with a knife made of 1095, and knives made with this steel arent all that pricey. ive owned ATS-34, D2, and many other that were made of the new latest and greatest but found out that they arent any better imo to the knives made of materials that have been used for years and years.

What I was meaning is over-all. I have had good knives that I paid around $50 for. I believe that you get what you paid for in the majority of cases. As in I would expect a better warrenty, steel, etc.. I just think that bragging to others is bad manners, yet if someone asks, and you are answering the question, that is what it is.

some of the best warranties in the business are Buck and KaBar...not exactly pricey knives, and they will hold their own with many knives that cost 2, 3, and 4 times what they do. OK, back on topic LOL

Hmmm - I seem to recall reading somewhere that there are 10 kinds of people in this world - those that understand binary and those that don't

I'm in Canada and I hate it when they give me metric measurements for knives vs inches. If a catalog says, "This knife is 110mm blade" I go like "what the hell is that?" When you say 4 inches I go like, that makes sense.
