What is your "pet peeve" when it comes to knives?

Seriously? Wow. Just wow.

For me it's a toss up in blade centering and blade play.

EDIT: And NO one uses my knife but me.

Ya I know it scarred me for life. Another one of mine is having a thumbstud on just one side. I know a lot of people love single studded sebbies but no matter what knife it is I cannot stand it!

Good point on the thumbstud. I forgot about that. I'll add that to my list as well.

Thumbstuds on one side. Yuck.

dull blades from the factory,
sloppy lock up
blade play
poor F&F
uneven grinds
bad warranties.

I have to add one more.

Knives where the cutting edge stops prematurely when they could have been lengthened by a good bit. Take this for example. Why not extend the blade by grinding the edge closer to the handle? There is no choil there...so there is no point to stop the grind like that. To me it's just wasted space.

Knife companies that add hacks to cover their defective designs and market it as a feature.

Knife companies that their yearly new models are the models they copied from someone else.

Knife people who have no concept of engineering, nor able to understand the price / quality curve is not linear.

Fan boys of any type, usually they use words like "tuff", "bullet Proof", etc..

Visible blade tangs when the knife it closed. *COUGH.....Benchmade....COUGH* I love their knives but that just urks me to hell.

Blade play.

By far the most annoying thing in all of knifedom.

This.

Also, ludicrously rough handles. I like my pockets to remain un-shredded, thankyouverymuch. :barf:

EDIT: In terms of blade steel, I can't stand steel that chips. I'm not much of a steel fetishist and I'm really not picky about the steel a knife uses, but if I have a knife that's prone to chipping, it gets deep-sixed.

Has to have a 100% no questions asked backed by the manufacturer warranty so if anything happens it's covered. ;)

If it's doesn't I don't own one. ;)

If the manufacture won't back their products 100% and stand behind them why would I spend my money on them. I mean if they won't stand behind them they must not have 100% confidence in them so I won't spend my money on them.

Which is why most of your knives are Busse, IIRC.

This is your pet peeve? It sounds like a huge issue for you.

That and their prices... I really want to own a BM but their prices are sure tough to cope with.

Once I got my first benchmade as a birthday present, I had no problems spending the $100 or so on each additional one. The axis lock is AWESOME!!! also, $100 is about par for mid line knives. Start with a $60 mini grip and you'll see how cool that lock is! I'm one of the cheapest guys on this website, so believe me when I say the little bit of extra money is worth it for a benchmade.

My pet peeves:

- Seeing an otherwise awesome wet dream of a knife (Kershaw Spec Bump) that doesn't have a reversible clip for a lefty.

- Having an issue with the knife within the first two weeks of getting it (blade hitting back spacer, spring breaking, pivot requiring constant babying to keep blade play from occurring)

- Seeing an awesome design that is only available in combo edge :grumpy:

- Pocket clips that are so tight that they shred your jean pocket every time you take the knife in or out.

People who LOVE the Buck 110! :D

Y'all are walk'n on thin ice there cheese-head. ;)

My annoyance are these new fangled 'super steels' that need diamonds to sharpen them. I think that civilization peaked at S30V.

One I haven't seen mentioned, I hate it when manufacturers use cheap black paint on their clips... as soon as it starts to chip off it looks like hell, and I wire brush it off to clean metal. Either blue the clips properly (which wear well), or please leave them bare metal!
