What is your point of diminishing return?

Highest I've spent is $670, most I would spend is $1000

I dropped $675. on a Warren Thomas M2 folder, in Red. No regrets but I will not drop big money on any more knives.
I have come to love INFI in a fixed blade and a Dozier folder in D2 tool steel. I am DONE.

you sir a really missing out on what our hobby is about.

No, he just has a different knife hobby than you do. Maybe you like red and he likes blue. I like Kate Upton, and maybe some other guy likes a bony chick with no curves. Its totally subjective, and you can't reasonably tell someone else what they should enjoy, right?

Function over form for me. I'm just as satisfied with this $109 CS Rajah 2 as I am with my DDR. So much so that I have another on order for my left pocket. I will name/engrave it TRUTH.

With all of the knifes you have and carrying a "lol $30 kershaw " you sir a really missing out on what our hobby is about. I only have 5 true custom knifes and all of the makers told me to use the **** out of them and when your ready send them back to me and I'll make them new again. So why not enjoy charring a real knife made for you or find a maker that makes a real knife.

REAL knife? Funny. I've yet to find a "real knife" that does the job better than my 30 dollar edc. Maybe YOU'RE missing out on better knives because of your obsession with expensive things.:D

$200, unless it is truly special or will have some sort of sentimental value to me. There are so many fantastic knives that are $200 or less. I would rather spend the money on customizing the knife itself, whether that be scales, hardware, etc. I will probably selling a few of my +$200 knives soon.

I personally don't see the point in buying high end tools as art. A bit like buying platinum hammers and golden screwdrivers. However, everyone has their own thing, and their own money, and we all have different tastes. What kills me is when a custom or midtech has very mundane locks, materials or design. A lot of these midtechs couldn't slice butter without smashing it. :P

Ah, but what is art? To some folks, a gun is a tool, but to others, a gun can be a work of art. I have guns and enjoy shooting, but even when I see a high-end, perfectly built gun, it's still "just a gun" to me. However, an inexpensive knife made from very run-of-the-mill materials with an appealing design is as much a work of art as it is a tool in my eyes. There are certain knives, some costing as little as $20, that have had that effect on me.

Someone who finds platinum hammers and golden screwdrivers to have artistic value might very well buy them.

That's true. However, I personally have already had the battle between utility and aesthetics. Utility won and I'm good with that. Not that I won't ogle some of the more exotic knives and guns. Then again, you guys might not buy expensive PC components and car upgrades.

De gustibus non est disputandum

In matters of taste there can be no disputes.

$120-$180 there's just some fantastic user folders at this price range. Not that folders in other price ranges aren't users. I havnt figured out a fixed blade figure yet as I dont use them as much as I would like to but there are several custom makers whose works I just love.

BTW, you seem to make a lot of opinionated and contradictory statements. You say this knife is usable and this knife is not, but have no problems with a knife with a big giant hole in the middle of the blade.

Also, look at your signature, you are selling a brand new "uncarried, never used" knife. So, I'm missing the point by not using my high-end customs, but you are not by buying a limited edition mid-range production and not using it? It's ok for you to not use your $410 knife, but it's not ok for me to use and bang up my $2-10k customs? I'm trying to understand your hypocrisy here, I'm also trying to understand why you seem to think you can judge knives without ever holding one or using one.

You should take that kershaw ruby, go cut concrete with it and then try to sell it, using your logic.

My reasons for buying knives are not the same as yours. I'm not missing the point, I'm missing your point.
I buy knives from a collector perspective. It's also insulting that you think thats "I have to find a maker that makes a real knife". That's a very narrow view.

I have no need to carry a high-end knife. I wear business attire, usually slacks, work in a corporate office with regulations and 99% of the time don't need a knife. When I do need a knife, that $30 kershaw will more than do the job, if I want to chop down a tree it will be with my chainsaw. I'm a collector, that means I like to keep my knives in mint condition, that doesn't mean those knives can't be used, I just choose not to.

You are also inferring that RJ Martin, Direware, Jake Hoback, Todd Fischer, Frank Fischer, Stan Wilson, Pohan Leu, Enrique Pena & a slew of other makers (because I have them in my collection) don't make "a real knife." I'm pretty sure more than a vast majority would disagree with you on that.

I didn't mean to tighten your panties! I was only saying that if you spend as much money as you constantly post about you spending on your knifes I thought you should just carry and enjoy them. If you just want to spend all that money on a knife and not use it that's ok with me,it's just a waste. All of the makers you mentioned would want there knifes to be used not kept as toys. I don't know all of them but I have a few of them. They are all used and if they get a little banged up I know I can send it back and they will make it new again. This way I have a nice custom tool for use as intended and not a toy to just post pics of and brag about how much money was wasted on them.

The Ruby I'm selling I bought it didn't like it so I'm selling it for exactly what I paid what's wrong with that?

it's just a waste.

The only person who can make that determination is the person who paid for the knife. I urge you to really embrace this and let it sink in for a moment. :)

But here's what I do. I received a sweet, stonewashed Kershaw Blur with Powernoodle Blue scales today, and liked it so much that I immediately ordered another one. Though these are not spendy knives like you guys are talking about, my plan is to carry one (and fondle it and sniff it as if it were Kate Upton and rub it on my forehead while I make purring noises) and to keep the other one virginous and NIB. That way, the Clanton half of me and the Pittknife side of me are both happy.

I swore I'd never buy anything over 400.00. My first SnG was supposed to be the "last" knife I'd ever buy (nearly 8-9 years ago). So far that's become the "normal" price for me when I consider buying something now, which leads me to believe that prices have become some what inflated over time. All that said, the most I've spent to date is about 800.00 and it's being used daily. All my knives are purchased with the intention of using (not abusing) them. There are plenty of sub-100.00 knives that will do everything I need them to but there's always that "one" that just costs a little more to own.

Sorry, but

"KNIVES."

One knife. Two knives. NO knifes.

Back on topic. I have to adjust my folding knife price to ~1000 because I found a Mosier that I like that goes for about that much.

You must really like guys underwear., that's your passive aggressive corny catch phrase . I normally don't respond to delusional trolls but you hooked me. I post pics of my knives to share, what this forum is for. I also don't post and tell people what to do with their knives because I want to sound like a know it all ignoramus. You spend a lot of time insulting people and makers, I won't be derailing this thread anymore out of respect to the OP.

I would say for me $600 for a production like a CRK un less it's a super LTD knife like a ZT 0777, and for Customs I would say no more then $2500 Like the GTC Customs.
I only (Handmade)Custom that i have is an Andre Thorburn L51 that I got for $800.
I compared it to my $100 CRKT Ripple that also has IKBS, and I must say i will never sell ether one.

I also have a kershaw knife that i am vary fond of because Its probably one of the cheapest (aftermarket )customs that you can get.
Its A Spectrum Leek(base cost $100) that AIK customized for me with Composite blade, Ivory scale and File work the whole length of
the blade. for this baby, $225 it was worth it!

Fixed blades no more then $1000. I have quite a Few Hibben knives and none of them where more then $300.
My most expensive Fixed blade is my Custom Dark Sword Armory LOTR Anduril One off that I Paid $850.
