It could be your most expensive knife or your cheapest. You may not know if it is rare but if you think it is, let's see it. I am fairly sure this is my rarest knife, only 60 were made for the Oregon Knife Collectors Association in 1998. I really like this knife because the inlayed woods make such a cool picture. I think the Beaver is amazing. I think it is close to artwork.

Tapio Wirkkala puukko. Paid $35 for it out of the Brookstone catalog sometime in the early ‘80s. They are not all that thin on the ground. Several members here have them, but you don’t see them often.
Rhombic cross-section and not quite a zero grind, but pretty close.

I’ll have to get a pic of the blade etch when I get some good light.

I had one of those back then. Nice quality, but the handle gave me the creeps. It was just slick enough that I knew my finger would end up on that blade.

The blade in my avatar was hand forged from old farm equipment. Won't be another exactly like it.
I have a larger wharnie from the same smith made from a file; same uniqueness applies.
98% of my knives are hand made so I suppose they are all 'rare'.

Back in the early 2000s I bought this from Wendell Carson on Ebay. He would buy the frames and blades from
Queen and put exotic handle materials on them. I had a dozen of them at one time with different handle materials.
I eventually sold them all off except for this mammoth ivory version. There's a bunch of Schatt and Morgan swaybelly trappers out there but only one like this.

You are correct in that rare doesn’t always equate to expensive. That said, my rarest is probably the G&G Hawk Deadlock in my Avatar w/custom job by Serge Panchenko. He did three like this - one with a ruby eye two without. I got the ruby, so it's sorta unique.

Nice beaver, btw ;)

This knife when first issued was certainly not rare . This one is rare because there is only one like it . Yes I modded it , or more like brought it back from half past dead . Originally it had wood scales and tiny brass pins . I made the scales out of Corian tile , the pins I made out of stainless and filled the hole pattern with blackened epoxy . Made a new guard and the Marline spike . The pliers have the KaBar mark but I think they are made by Utica .
The KaBar Riggers knife . Click on picture to enlarge .

I have a ZT sprint run collaboration with hinderer that has never seen light. I recall it being full black ti with green hardware. Brand new still in the box it was shipped in, so I guess its doubled sealed lol. I wonder if it's a low serial number number?

Edit: Its this guy... I was able to snag a 0392 that's black and bronze as well; but that guy gets carried every now and again. Never really needed to open the other one, cuz its the same just a different color.
