What is your travel knife or knives?

If I had to travel by plane, I'd just buy a knife at the destination like a cheap Kershaw.

I won't carry an expensive knife in checked baggage for fear of losing it. Most of the time when I am traveling by air my destination is not knife-friendly so I carry an old Leatherman multitool. I figure it will be viewed as a tool and not a weapon.

When I travel by car it is usually to locations where I can carry my normal EDC knives. Right now I tend to have an EDC rotation of nice knives and a few that I intend to use for rougher duty that I carry on weekends, and since most of my travel by car is on weekends I will carry one of them. Right now those knives are a Spyderco Manix 2, Benchmade 912 and Benchmade 760.

Just returned from business travel myself - had my Case Sodbuster with me.

Why is veryone afraid to fly with knives? How many of you had a knife stolen out of your luggage?

For flying, I have a hard time leaving all my knives at home.

I usually try to limit it to easily replaceable production knives. Usually a few sizes of traditional folders and a one handed locking "tactical" style, like a Recon1 or something.

Last time I flew, I got to where I was going, and pulled out the knives to check. I ended up with well over $700 worth of knives in my bag............

Even though there were no high end knives, it end up with more than a few GEC's and a few modern folders (it is a sickness).

Last time it was a long drive, so I brought all my nice knives!

My brother flew to Alaska for Thanksgiving, took a couple of my Dads traditionals to give to his grand kids, sadly they weren't in his checked bag when he got there.

Depends where I'm going. I always carry my Leatherman Wave and Squirt P4, Vic Midnite Minichamp and Huntsman. If there's a beach involved I also carry my Spyderco Salt models - Salt 1 and Ladybug Salt.

I will at least have my $30 locking swiss army knife. if im driving I will have my Survive knives edc4 and my busse basic 10

Since given to me in Cambodia 22 years ago, this knife has traveled with me to about half the states in the USA including 5 of the Hawaiian islands, Johnston Atoll, Puerto Rico, Saipan, Guam, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Singapore, Papua New Guinea, Rabaul, Australia, Fiji, Germany, France, Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Even crossed the line (equator) with me aboard the USS Blue Ridge. No telling where else it travelled before I was given it as the man who gave it to me has travelled all over the world too.

In the bush across much of Southeast Asia and across the South Pacific, this knife travelled in my ruck.

I've had two stolen when flying from the USA out of country. No doubt stolen a originating airport in USA. Both since TSA bag checking began. Both times with TSA inspection tags in the baggage.

I have to travel pretty regularly for business purposes and I've had knives stolen from checked baggage (presumably by the TSA) at least three times. Of course this pales in comparison to the number of times I've forgotten a knife in my backpack or pocket and had to deal with it.

I've taken to only putting inexpensive knives in my checked luggage. Chinese SRM/Bee/Enlan knives or Cold Steel products, mostly.

Traveling when you're used to having a pocket knife handy has gotten pretty obnoxious. It seems all the sillier when you realize just how pointless the rules are. It's not as though the procedures even work. For example, I recently discovered only after a trip that I'd carried the same knife through security (in my backpack) on two flights, accidentally. It had ended up down at the bottom of a compartment full of junk. Incidentally, it's next to impossible to see a Cold Steel Mini Lawman in the bottom of a cluttered backpack, particularly when said backpack is black.

The thief should be tared and feathered. I always kept mine in my carry on until all the post 911 changes. Now I carry a SAK in the bag if I travel by air. I don't do much flying anymore which is just fine by me.

If it fits it ships. Wrap it. Box it. Insure it. Mail it to destination. Get out the cab, check in at front desk, pick up package, ...Hello Sebenza..:DI Years ago I would travel with the middle son on the US Snooker tour. Can't take cues on plane. He would UPS his sticks to every tournament venue. Sometimes in the Longmont UPS store 3 times a week. Even had a receiving 'room' for cues in the Luxor.

I won't put anything valued over $75 in a suitcase that'll be handled by TSA. Therefore I will pack 2 of the following 4:

1) Endura 4 FFG
2) Manix 2 Translucent Blue
3) Ontario Rat 1
4) Esee Zancudo
