What kind of folder do you carry?

After half a dozen Spyderco examples I’ve determined buying used is the best way to guarantee a good centering and action. Nothing like opening a box and wondering if a teenager in shop class whipped this thing up on a $40 grinder.
Haha no kidding!
I owned two of these before that were nicely centered but stiff as a hell.
Nearly every other PM2 sprint has been off centered and gravely.

I’m so picky I disassemble and tune everything now before I even use it. Even a Shiro CD. I’ve got to the point my Shiro serials are tuned better than a CD out of the box so I started doing those too. I only have 3 CDs. One I sent in and had Sergey tune. One I tuned and one is waiting till I have some time to get into it and decide if it’s a keeper.

After that I’ll be getting into the Collabs, once Shiro releases a run of the special bits. I think they should come with the appropriate bits at the price they command. Just MHO.

I’ll have to check out one of those eventually because my yearning to own a CRK wore off after fondling a few at the local knife store.
If my OCD is anything like yours, it sounds like I should consider a Shiro someday.
Having the courage to use one is a whole different issue!

I think Shirogov and I should collaborate on something, (above my pay scale?)

I’m in. They’ve done one with Southard which wrapped up last year, it’s freakin’ outstanding and almost never see one for sale. Sinkevich and Shiro are always working together. Then there is the upcoming Hokkaido with John Barker, and the recent Dr. Death with Tom Mayo.

Just to name a few.

I would be too afraid to use some of these folders y’all list. I am rough on knifes. Currently for work I carry a benchmade 940-1501. Smooth, light, and enough blade it handles anything a desk job can throw at it and more.

$500+ for a Spyderco? That’s Shiro territory if you ask me!

Love my PM2 sprint for what is cost me though, under $200 and worth every penny.

Yes lower $500ish is certainly where a lower production grade / entry llevel / smaller / older / more used up Shirogorov folders meet a top of the line collaborative production Spyderco, but for several other reasons apart from an easier resale in case the knife does not work out, I would still prefer to grab a new Spydie or (gasps) a CRK! If I really wanted to splurge on a Shiro, I'd drop some coin on a Shiro with Vanax 37 steel. I love FFG in a folder and Spyderco does not offer anything in Vanax 37 yet. So there.

Vanax 37 is a variation of Vanax that is only available in Europe. In North America it would be just Vanax or Vanax Superclean I guess. Not sure why it isn’t more popular. It’s crazy good for a folder. Wonder if Nathan could improve the HT.
