What kind of folder do you carry?

I got mine a bit ago. It is one slicey sucker!

I have a pm2 in 15v and the abrasion resistance coupled with the thin edge geometry is outstanding.

Sharpest longest lasting edge on a folder I've ever experienced.
Maxamet PM2 is better/longer lasting, but also less tough, and a lot of people have had chipping issues with it. I never had that, but my dad did with his PM2. I think if you don't put lateral pressure on the edge it is fine. But that is a foreign concept for some.

Yeah. Rex121 is longer lasting too. I'll pass on maxamet and rex121. I like 15v because it has great abrasion resistance and it doesn't chip easily.

It may have to do with the BBB (aka DeadboxHero DeadboxHero ) heat treat. He also had some videos showing significant lateral stress on the edge without causing chipping. Sounds better than maxamet to me, but that's just my opinion.

For an EDC steel, 15V is likely the better best choice of the 3. That said, I still bought a Sage 5 in REX121… 😁

The main reason I love Spyderco? (Besides the fact that they’re less than 20 minutes from my house, and I’ve been carrying them for almost 40 years.) Name me any other production knife company using 15V, Maxamet, and REX121!

Agreed. I love their willingness to use/experiment with new steels.
Their edge geometries are fantastic too.

Initially, I hated the way their knives look, but you can't argue with how well they function. I really don't buy any other folders now.

Weird Wednesday, recently picked up this old school Gerber "Chameleon" with it's wild open pivot design and "Blackie" Collins Bolt-Action 😎

‘Retired from carrying guns & hoses now. ‘Carried big tacticool Benchmades, with a couple Hinderers thrown in for 30 years and frankly, I always found heat treats lacking. ‘Always had a Spydie 93mm rescue in my turnout gear. My future son-in-law is a police officer and I handed it down to him at Christmas; it’s still going strong.

These days, I’m always remodeling somewhere, for someone and also a licensed electrician. A buddy has turned me into a full blown Spyderco convert. I pretty much have a BBB 15v Para 3 in my pocket every day (have back-ups) and love that knife more, every day. Also fond of my Manix 2 salts in Magnacut, especially for kayak season. Going to grab a couple Para 3 salts for Kayaking this year and a couple BBB Manix 2 lightweights, when they’re released.

As much as the OCD in me requires some skeletonized liners and some G-10 or micarta goodness, the lightweights just work and disappear in the pocket.
