My wife carries several blades, but she is very knife friendly. So, let me suggest what I got for my son's girlfriend last Christmas; a Spyderco Salsa. All sorts of color possibilities, big enough to be useful, but not intimidating and it has a cute pepper on it. Son's girlfriend, who was somewhat knife phobic originally, really likes it and delights in telling me when she uses it.
My girlfriend carries a Leatherman Juice S2 and a Purple BM Mini Griptillian.
You should see the look on our friends faces when they ask about that clip sticking out of her pocket, and she flips that little knife open in the blink of an eye! Its really fun to watch their expressions.
She's a recent convert (was afraid of knives before we met) and now she says she doesn't know how she got by without one before.
My wife carries a (razor-sharp) Cold Steel medium plain-edge clip-point Voyager and a Victorinox Classic SAK.
I'm thinking about upgrading her to my (PE) Spyderco Native III, 'tho, as she has carried the Voyager for the past 2 years without loosing it or damaging it.
Damascus hunter by Chris Peterson, CRK Mnandi serial numbered, BM42S, small knife by Yohihito Aida, Ka Bar, BM940, a couple of miniatures, lady finger by Burchtree, I don't remember the rest....
First she stole my Micra. Then I got her a Case tiny Texas Toothpick from the Bubba Gum series with pink scales. She liked it, but was afraid of it closing on here. Now she has a pink Spyderco Jester plain edge. She really seems to like it and actually does use it.
Maybe one of those mini Griptilians would be a cool xmas gift....
BM42 balisong
Camillus Arc Lite
Spyderco Native
SOG Seal Pup
When she was around here she usually carried the Native as her EDC and occasionally the BM42 or the Arc Lite. She was progressing nicely at flipping the BM42!
Currently she is in Iraq and has the Native with her that she carries regularly and the Seal Pup is on her LBE. They wouldn't let her take the balisong with her.
My wife owns a Leatherman Micra, Spyderco Ladybug, and a Spyderco Co-Pilot PE engraved with her initials. She won't carry the Co-Pilot because she doesn't want it to get too scratched up. Lately she has been carrying the Micra and either my Spyderco Navigator PE or Rookie G-10 PE.
She was in a business meeting recently, and someone asked for a knife to cut a donut. She said everybody just froze as she pulled out the Navigator. I guess it's a good thing she didn't take my Military!
