What knife can you get away with carring at work?

sorry if I'm bumping a zombie here, I'm just bored as hell and this seems like a cool topic. Anyway, I work at a store called Army Barracks, selling knives, so pretty much anything goes. One quite a few occasions i get threw giving someone the whole knife law talk, walk away have to use my knife for something and they notice my knife isn't legal to carry. I only carry at work, all illegals ride in my bag while in public. Unfortunately MA kinda sucks with knife laws, no assisted, no auto, no double edged, etc. etc.. And my city goes the extra step further limiting blade length to 2.5". so that means pretty much my entire collection of knives is illegal to carry, even a dinky Kershaw Vapor.

Well that sucks! If I was somewhere that I couldn't carry my Military, I would move. But that is just me. :)

I just started at a new job where they have a 2" blade length restriction. it seems this can be pushed though as ive since seen several people (incl management) carrying larger traditionals.

but the good news is it gave me a reason to buy a new knife! ;)

Pretty much anything that is suitable for office and walking around with a clip hanging off dress pants is too goofy looking.

This week I have been carrying this by Kerry Hampton (aka KnifeHead): It has cut plastic packing straps wrapped around boxes and several lighter duty tasks as well as some nail trimming.

I can carry anything and every thing I want. If i wanted to, I could strap on a big chopper....I won't because it is heavy and I stand all day. I would just get comments on i the first day or two and then not again.

But ya, I carry a case cheetah, a ZT0350, BK14, and Leatherman PST every day, both in college (now) and at work (over the summer). I dread the day that I end up working somewhere with knife limits, not to mention CCW restrictions...

You cannot use or possess any weapon in a company facility or while representing the company at off-site functions. No weapons are allowed in company vehicles at any time. No weapons are allowed in your personal vehicle while at a company facility or on company business except as allowed by state law.
Mine is quite generic and doesn't state what a weapon is. So I carry something on the smaller side just to be safe. Usually a Leek or my Vasquez (with a deep carry clip). I have carried the ZT 0560 a couple times on Jeans Friday if my shirt is long enough to come down over my pocket but it usually stays in my bag until after work. In an office environment, the most I've used a knife for here at work is peeling a couple apples, random food tasks so I don't need anything bigger. Heck, I could probably get by with a peanut if I wanted to, but that just wouldn't be fun :D

Just a story from yesterday.

An assistant across from my office was trying to cut some plastic straps off some server cases yesterday. Started off with her car keys then went to get scissors.
The scissors just folded the straps. I was there and discretely cut the straps with that sub 2.5 inch folder. She makes the typical weapon comment towards the knife. I stopped, motioned towards the large pair of scissors still in her hand saying that I would be more concerned over the scissors being used as a weapon. Then pointed to the paper cutter blade (which can be easily removed by taking off a wing-nut) saying I would be even more concerned over those laying around than a pocket knife. She smiled and said, I see what you mean. :).

@fatherhudson that's an Al Mar SLB

I want one!

and keeping on topic, I carry a leek at work and school and more recently a minigrip. I work in a restaurant on weekends and it's a lot easier to carry a blade in my pocket than to grab a paring knife or something every time i have to go to the back and open a box to restock something. sometimes my boss asks if she can use it. as for school, i don't actually know what the policy on blades is but i never have a reason to use one other than food and who's gonna fault me for cutting an apple?

I've had one of the Al Mar SLB for a few years. Nice little knife. You will notice that the lines flow very nicely when the knife is opened or closed. I'll have to get it back in the edc rotation.

I've pretty much carried what I want to at work. I'm at a small start up. At the present time I am EDCing a Tenacious, Dragonfly, or Half Ton. Oh yeah, and have the SAK classic on the key ring.

We're not allowed to use knives where I work around the customers, and we're given these crappy retractable blades. They are all dull and no one knows where to get spare blades and even knows how to replace them. So I discretely carry a PM 2 and sometimes an Izula. The Izula was a life saver as the blade they gave me would have hurt me had I used it to cut boxes as I was told to do.
