What knife can you get away with carring at work?

Being a part time business owner and full time student my EDC choices can be a bit varied when I'm at school I carry something inconspicuous and with a lower profile like an opinel 06 or a Case Peanut however when I'm not at school and working I tend to carry larger slipjoints ( like the Buck 301 and Case Muskrat ) and/or medium sized modern one hand folders ( like my Cold Steel Voyager or CRK LG 21 Sebenza ).

is that a a Benchmade Pika II combo edge; a BRKT Bravo Necker 2, a Leatherman Wave, and a .45 cal. Armscor Compact model in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?!

I whipped out my Tenacious combo edge one day and had someone make a comment about how big it was. I personally think it a bit wide and do not carry it as much, but carry a Sage II, Sage III, or Kershaw Skyline everyday now. Another co-worker carries a Delica, and another a Persistance (I helped his girlfriend pick that out actually). My next knife will be a Kershaw Echelon, and then a PM2, and I plan on carrying those at work.

Probably not a large fixed blade but short of that,my boss doesn't give a flip what I carry. Including an auto.

Former Marine on a Marine Base. Usually a large Strider folder and a Strider SLCC as a necker,a microtec ludt in shirt pocket. Was interacting with one of the base civilian police and he asked to see my Strider XL. Really liked it and wanted to know where to get one.
Never had a problem. Got to love Marines they like to break stuff and blow up stuff. They don't bat an eye at a knife.

R.D., I'm thinking we are on the same base. Stop over at SecBn and we can talk knives. Oh and +1 on carrying what I want there. I carry whatever I want.

I'm about to start carrying fixed ~4" blade on top of my work BM Stryker. Being in construction I carry anything I want that helps me do my job. I never met people at work who were intimidated by a knife. I even brought knives to the job-sites where civilians are not allowed to bring/carry a knife (schools, airports, etc), but as a contractor I was exempt from the regulation, a knife is just one of the hundred of tools I use.

I haven't worked anywhere that had a real restriction on knife length. In the past I have carried larger knives, just under 4" blade length. I would occasionally get comments from people when used my knife to open a package or whatever, so I gradually got to where I was carrying 3" blades. Right now I'm looking for a few new EDC's in the 3.5" range.

leo, and i normally carry my crkt m16 3.5" blade, sometimes s30v blur. my sergeant carries an auto, bm 3550 pardue. he's bought everybody on the shift knives but nobody really caries them. we don't have restrictions, per se, but we're expected to look professional.

What ever I want... Its good to be the boss! I answer to nobody but me and perhaps the cops...

How large of a knife can you carry at work? I started a new Job a few weeks ago, and everyone is pretty laid back.
While reading the "weapons section" of the company handbook, I saw it stated no firearms, weapons or cutting instruments with a blade over 3".

This company is a management company and is world wide.

Anyway, yesterday in the break room I realized I didn't have a can opener for my canned Steak n' Shake Chili.
So I broke out a 610 Rukus, and began carefully opening the can. The only thing anyone said was, ah, you forgot your can opener. Don't cut yourself.

Everyone else just couldn't care less.

So what if anything can/do you carry at work?

I live in Germany but work for the Air Force, so while at work I carry whatever I want: BM auto-presidio or Spyderco Paramilitary2, with a multitool in my leg pocket in case I need it. When not in uniform I carry a spyderco urban or UKPK since it's not legal to have a folder that can be opened with one hand and lock open (technically). When I go TDY to other countries I carry a Kabar Dozier or other cheap but good folder just in case someone gives me grief I don't care if it gets confiscated. The only exception was in the UK, where I've heard so many bad stories about cops giving people a hard time that I only carried my UKPK most of the time.

I can't wait to get back to the States where I can carry locking pocket knives again.

I enjoy being a trucker because I can pretty much carry anything I want, although I usually don't carry anything longer than a 4" blade. Every company I've worked for has no policy against knives as they do against firearms. (Unfortunately, federal regulations prohibit hazardous materials drivers from carrying firearms, even after 9/11. :thumbdn: )

Currently, my EDC is a ZT 0300.

if its a folder and i can fit it in my pocket its good. the largest i have carried on shift was a extrema ratio MF-2. my average is a ZT0300 or Benchmade Onslaught

I don't have any problems with carrying any of my knives. My edc's range from a Dozier Workhorse to a Retribution 1, to JW Smith SD-3, to BM Adamas, to ZT0200, to Spyderco ti Military, to Lion Steel SR-1, to Fox Deimos, and so it goes. But every one of the above named knives, and some unnamed knives that I carry have deep-carry pocket clips that people at work apparently do not see as I have never had the question; "Hey, what's in your pocket?" asked of me. There is a rule somewhere, but it really applies to people coming onto the property, rather than the employee's.

I work for a large retail warehouse chain. Im pretty sure we cant carry any knives. But I carry and use knives. I stick to blades with less than 3 inches. Usually one of my 7 mini grips or my gray delica 4.

Never have a problem carrying my Spyderco Spyderhawk in my neck sheath. Heck we have gun lockers in the locker room and our trucks. One of our office ladies has a .357 in her desk every day. :)

I can carry anything I want as long as it's 3.5in or less and not an auto. The "no automatic knives" rule came into place after a young girl had her auto open up...right into her thigh.

nothing, management consultant so i'm on a plane a lot

at home i rotate between spyderco pmil, benchmade stryker, bm635, ZT350, and a microtech ultratech.

I work in an office building with a no-weapon policy. I carry a ZT0550 without any issues normally. Folks don't really seem to care, which actually surprises me considering how up tight MA normally is.
