What Knife Did Your Dad, Or Grandpa Carry?

I never knew my father, grandfather or the two uncles I was reasonably familiar with to carry any knives....

Guess I must've been carrying some recessive genes all this time.... :D

dad had a 1960s red bone case pen knife which i lost after 7 years (was 12 when it happened.) he felt bad about that because here in the philippines, it was irreplaceable. never got around to buying him a replacement before he died.

My dad carried a Buck 110. My Grandfather carried a Colonial slip joint . I have that little Colonial now . My Father's 110 was stolen from me many years ago. All I can do is hope karma will deliver the old 1 2 punnch in the nads that the thief has coming :D
As for suggestions for your Dad take a look at A.G Russell. I was drooling over the little 3" lockback today for a little more traditional look at Pinched Peanut or the Schatt & Morgan Selct File & Wire Kentucky Shiner Pint. wheeeeew that was a long one:D

My Papaw carried a Case Mako that he got from another relative, he left it to my dad when he passed so now my dad carries it. Prior to dad getting the Case, he carried a traditional looking slipjoint of some sort, don't know the brand.

My grandpa on my mom's side carried a Case congress. On my dad's side, grandpa carried an old Imperial forest-master. I'm lucky enough to have both knives and a lot of good memories from both of them.

What a great idea for a topic!

I just recently found my grandpa's knives.

The pearl scaled folder and the Poker dices in this pic, belonged to my Greatgrandfather and my Grandmother gifted them to me when I was 12.
Bernard Levine dated the knife to the period between 1880 to 1920 and made in Germany.

The swedge is ground offcenter in the same way as the San Fransisco knives was made and the now worn blade once looked like a mini SF Bowieblade.

My dad carries a leatherman blast (discontinued) and one of the the leatherman folders (discontinued). My grandpa was far too old for me to know.

My Grandpa has a rather large knife stash. He has rheumatoid arthritis pretty bad in his hands so he doesn't carry a knife anymore. He use to carry a light weight lockback similar to a Buck 112 with the paper stone handles.

My Dad just carries a metal snap-on keychain multi-tool thing, or he uses his keys. I've been wanting to get him a decent knife for a while but knowing him he'll just keep it in his closet and never use it lol.

My younger Brother EDCs a Tenacious that I gave him.

My Mom wants my Strider to fight off bad guys :p.

My dad carries a large Carbon Opinel (09 I think), that's got a blunted, possibly broken tip. My grandpa carries a red bone Rough Rider Stockman of a sort, that's a very well made knife IMHO. He's carried a plethora of different, American, and German pocket cutlery, and feels that for the money Rough Riders are hard to beat for using on a regular basis. My other grandpa carries (the last time I recall seeing his knife, he's not really a knife guy) a Boker Copperhead with red bone scales. My uncle carries an incredibly well worn Schrade 340T, that sports some incredibly thin, skinny worn out blades.

I have seen my dad carry all kinds of knives: spydercos of various varieties, a gerber with a index finger hole, small engraved buck lockback, SOG micron, some Bokers, etc...and a fixed blade every now and then.

I ended up with a lot of my maternal grandpas old folders: mostly whittler and stockman models. All no-names. My paternal grandpa mostly carried utility knives.

Both of my Grandfathers passed away when I was a wee lad. I never got to know them, or if they carried a knife. One of my Grandfathers was a farmer, so I assume he carried a knife of some type. My Dad never carried a knife. As far as I know, I'm the only one in my family that has any interest in knives, or guns for that matter. I'm the back sheep, or the lone wolf of the family.

Grandpa always carried different kinds of SAKs, and a large fixed blade that he made, as people in the Alaskan wilderness should. Dad has always carried a Spyderco, it changes year to year which model he prefers. Mom always has Benchmade Griptilian in her purse.

They both just carried a typical pocket jackknife..non locking type small but scalpel sharp lol. I recently got my dad one with a lock on it when he got his stolen by a bus driver in Washington DC(long story lol). So I got him a nice lock blade knife he says "why didnt I get one of these sooner lol". He said he had the typical knife closing on fingers several times and I said yeah id not really messed with those knives after the first time that happened as a kid :)

Hi All

My Granddad was a tough old man. Being a blacksmith he told me that Case was as good as it gets.He carried a 3 blade folder about the size of a stockman. That was during the 30s and 40s.

My grandpa on my moms side carried a large Case stockman with bone handle. It was heavily patina'd and the tip on the main blade was chipped. (gone) And my step dad carries a small leatherman and a small tanto voyager.

My Dad carried a little case slipjoint that he sharpened on the grinding wheel at work, and washed in the parts cleaner when it was greasy. He used that small knife day in and out. When he retired I gave him a nice Leatherman and Kershaw double cross. He never used them. When he passed I got them back. Can't seem to part with them, or the beat up little guy he carried at work every day.

My dad carries a Leatherman Skeletool CX that I got him for Christmas a few years back. He's a locksmith and I honestly can't think of a better knife for him to carry. Plus, it's the CX so it has the 154CM blade and the Carbon Fiber handle insert. Literally can't get more for the money, in my opinion.
