Johnny,
If you can spend $100, I'll try to give you a choice that may just leave you enough for a decent pocket knife, too. First, when I say 'mail order', I am referring to knifestore or knifeworks, etc, on the web.
Here is an assortment:
From top down: Buck 192 Vanguard (420HC ~$60 mo), Benchmade 201 Activator+ (D2 ~$75 mo), KaBar #1232 Hunter (AUS6[?] ~ $35 mo), and Queen Cutlery #92 (D2 ~$50 mo). Not shown is the Buck 102 - a small version of the Buck 119 - and it runs from ~$43 - $60 depending on whether it is, like the 119 at Wally World, Al/black phenolic or the 'dress-up' brass fg & pommel with rosewood handle, like the 192 above. The 119 for $34 at Wally World is a deal - it may just be too much of a fixed blade, the others being considerably smaller. The KaBar is an import, the rest are US-made.
Here is a modern pair, new this year, of Buck 'Gen5 Skinners' - the top is #005RWS (154CPM ~$75 mo) and the bottom is #005GYS (420HC mo ~$55). In the next view, the 005GYS is ni the horizontal carry nylon sheath, while the 005RWS comes with the leather vertical sheath. I like the cheaper one better - a great woods-walking companion - and only 7 3/8" overall length`(The Benchmade is 8 1/8"). I like the horizontal sheath.
Here is the Buck 119 on the left, with the 110, 503, and Spyderco Native going to the right:
Here is a Buck 119, 102, 005, and 192 for relative size comparison:
You might consider a decent folder, too. The Spyderco Native in S30V is great, if you can find one at a Wally World. The Buck 503 Prince is a small version of the Buck 110 - which is the same price ($25 ea at W-W). The Kershaw Scallion, Leek, and Blur run from $30-$40-$50 - and are great, too. Here are the Buck 110, Kershaw Blur, Leek, & Scallion, with a Spyderco Native at the right end. A version of each was available at Wally World'
Let us know what you decide.

PS Sorry about the condition of some of my knives... some have seen a bit of use - all get carried.
