What knife do you hate the most?

Add this to it and I think we're done:

Can't say I really hate a specific knife, but I certainly don't like non-functional knives. I want a cutting and slicing instrument, not a wall hanger.

Any knife with partial serrations. Most new Gerbers, and Taylor made Schrades. There are others I don't care for,but this will suffice.

Agree-

Things that bother me:
-Knives that are too thick. (you've never broken a kitchen knife, but think you need a 1/4" thick blade as soon as you step outside.. :thumbdn:)

-Knives (and guns) bought to look at. (99% of the pic threads contain knives that have never sliced more than paper.. :thumbdn:)

-Tactical ...Anything associated with that word can piss off :jerkit::thumbdn:.

-Forced patinas ...are for the pre-ripped jeans crowd, not for me.

This is a hate thread. If I offended you, that's your problem... :D

Since this is a HATE thread -- I'll drum-up some. Though readers should note that my lawyer advises me to endorse -- which I do -- the claim that this HATE is totally satirical, and should be taken, in every way, as an exercise of my right to free speech, and in addition to all other freedoms therefollowing, the specific freedom to compose satirical fiction; and through this -- the right to name actual public entities in the course of fictional, satirical, writing; the nature and subject matter of this post -- in toto -- and in the statements following forthwith -- with the exception of this clarification of my rights and intent in writing -- may or may not be inspired by actual events, or previously voiced actual opinions; and it, and the manner of the post in general, and following statements in particular, nevertheless, bear no implied, intended, or necessarily expected, relationship to the statements that follow. That said -- begin the HATE:

Stupidly thick factory grinds. Number one pet peeve. Most of the time a knife like that is also unevenly ground. And I won't stop short of mentioning some names here: Benchmade** -- your Lum 760 titanium scaled tanto w/ CPM M4 blade is 180 bucks* -- and -- I'd wager -- duller than crap. Yes. I can probably cut newspaper with crap easier than I can cut something with your knife. I'd post pictures of it, I'm not too proud -- I did after all pay 180 bucks for a knife as dull as crap -- but, in addition to NEVER WANTING TO WASTE AN HOUR OF MY TIME FIDDLING WITH YOUR KNIFE AND A PILE OF FECES -- I have too much respect for BF to post pictures of your inferior knife next to a pile of human feces (most likely from a morning post-coffee batch) which -- despite belonging the most disgusting type of thing in the world (human feces) -- do not, as a token of said type, so wildly fail to meet my expectations.

And...

Partial serrations -- though exceptions could occasionally be made if they are on 5"+ fixed blades; I can understand a small run of serrations at the back of a large, otherwise well-done, fixed blade. Especially if someone thinks they might occasionally have to cut through something like multiple layers of shrink wrap (think seran-wrap) plastic, aramid webbing, or similar -- but they don't forsee that as the primary use of the knife. Not something I'd see myself asking for -- but it's not a dealbreaker on an otherwise well done knife. I got a friend of mine (works for Navy intelligence) a Masters of Defense fixed blade that fit that description.

I would personally pass almost any folder with a partial run of serrations, though. The plain edge portion is hardly ever long enough - and it's often awkward to use for whittling or detail work since it's out at the front of the knife (and many factory folders have overly thick tips, etc.); and since most of the serrations you see on factory folders are pretty large and 'coarse-patterned' I don't think you have a long enough run of them to find them all that effective. Maybe the Victorinox folders -- the one with the mild scalloped serrations at the front belly of the knife -- would be better. Probably not.

I have bought partially serrated folders for good personal friends, or advised friends to buy partially serrated folders. But, in every case, it was because -- though I liked said person a great deal -- I had no faith in the person's ability to put any kind of edge on the knife. I figured that, eventually, when the plain edge went completely dull, it wouldn't be much different from every other (dull) knife they were used to -- with the exception that the back portion could still rip something a bit and start a fissure that the dull plain edge could pull open.

YMMV.

(satire continues to continue in the text to follow)

**= I do like some of your stuff though admittedly. I like my 610 Ruckus -- the big one -- quite a bit. Probably the best all-around folding knife I have; and I have a lot of folders. Too bad you don't make it anymore.
*= ...and the market is flooded with them -- and Spyderco's Ti CPM M4 Military is going for 260 bucks on e-bay with tons of other people SCREAMING for them -- because (among other things like blade centering issues -- the frame lock presses against the blade while closed, scuffs up the finish, and unscrews the pivot JUST A LITTLE BIT every time you open it) and even though your customer service department WILL NOT EVEN BOTHER TAKING MY MONEY -- WANT $50? I'll pay you it if you asked for it (this is a hypothetical - I did not pay them 50 bucks to fix it - they do not offer that sort of thing)! I would PAY you to screw-up and then fix something I had the reasonable expectation WOULD WORK SINCE I PAID 180 BUCKS for it!!! -- AND ACTUALLY SQUARE AWAY THE GODDAMN BLADE!

That HEST folder seems like a Fail from the start. If the initial Limited Edition blades can get shipped without any Quality Control, I wouldn't spend my money on a mass-production version.

:thumbup: Gotta love those pictures of completely unblemished, unscratched, totally pristine looking knives that the owner claims are their heavy duty EDC's :D

Hate is a pretty strong word. It gets thrown around a lot. However, I have no use for the $2 throw-away junk they sell in gas stations and flea markets. The steel is terrible and the locking mechanics are worse. They aren't just bad, they're dangerous. Dull blade + Poor Locking Mechanics = Cuts and Scars.

SP

Any folder where the clip is so damn tight that you cant get it back out of your pocket with out ripping your pants off with it.

Any knife with blade coatings, deaths heads, skulls, skull crushers, camo paint, garish lanyards or otherwise useless embellishments. Unfortunately, many of the "tactical" designs have has come to = both expensive and useless. Also hate expensive fixed knives that come with lousy sheaths.

.................ACTUALLY SQUARE AWAY THE GODDAMN BLADE!

Too much formal logic and equivocation. I didn't start feeling the hate until that last 6 words.

True dat!

And then there are the postings where somebody whines because he got a scratch in his "hard use" knife!

The night hawk should have been made full tang and the oxygen wrench added on the end as a lanyard hole.

I just got a griptilian. I like the knife but I dont like the feel of the grip.

Out of knives I've bought and owned... I still own it: CRKT M16-10KZ

Tanto, partial serations, loosening pivot, auto-lawks, thin liner and thus thin liner lock, AUS-4 steel, black coating... I keep it to remind that some knives can be useless.
