What knife do you keep in the car?

But I don't think any law is being broken by someone walking down the street with a chainsaw.
God forbid someone walks down the street with a "large knife" on their hip, I would think they would draw more attention than the person with the chainsaw, just saying........

I get it and I agree. Just saying it is weird a machete would be so scary to the average person but a chainsaw would not. Weird world we live in.

A couple sanrenmu knives ... I dont want anything expensive to get stolen or confiscated

Gerber LMF II. I figure it'll handle most any emergency type need, from cutting to glass breaking. For other needs I have a Beretta PX4 Storm .40 in the glovebox.

LOL!
You have to be a lawyer to carry knife now a days!
Or consult one.
Crazy!

Thats why I live in Florida :) the gun and knife laws are more reasonable.
As to scaring people I know what you mean at my bank one there was an older gentleman who pulled at the same time I did, on a Beautiful Harley he was wearing a custom J. Neilsen knife absolutely breathtaking in a custom sheath,
After he left a teller I've known for years complained that he shouldn't carry something like that when he's going to a bank.
Funny thing is she knows I carry a G29 and a 442 at all times and she has no problems with that, I guess I won't tell her I also carry a bk17 and either a Sog vulcan or Spyderco Folder too.
To the original question I keep a mora and a becker bk16 in the car
In my van it,s a mora and a bk9. I don't believe my wife would want a gas smelling Chainsaw in either vehicle.

Ka-Bar BOGA mounted in the wheelwell for easy reach. Ontario spec plus machete under rear jumpseats in case I need to clear away road obstacles like tree limbs. Spyderco Tenacious in case I happen to forget a folder that day.

Mora 511 and fire starting materials in glove box. Fiskars splitting axe in trunk.

Crkt m21-14sfg in the cd holder under the radio. Crkt Hissastsu folder clipped in center console. Corona machete in the back. And Rem. 870 riding next to the machete. God bless Texas!

Leatherman Pulse in the center armrest console. I never use it for anything but it seemed like a good place to leave it.

Aside from a small emergency tool kit with an adjustable wrench, pliers, screw driver with reversible flat and phillips bit and jumper cables, I don't keep stuff in my car. I learned my lesson when 20 years ago I got T-boned at an intersection by a red light running idiot. When I got out of the hospital the next day, and went to where they had towed what was left of my car, my old 60's era Puma bowie, folding saw, Victorinox huntsman, 4 D cell Maglight, binoculars, and the whole emergency bag of stuff was gone from the truck. The glove box had been looted too. The tow truck driver and everyone else claimed they didn't steal a thing.

Now except for a small road kit with jump cables, a few flares, and a few other car items, I don't keep any personal effects in the car at all. A car is a piece of equipment like a clothes drier or microwave to me. I learned that in a blink of an eye it can get wrecked, stolen, or broken into. Now I don't leave anything i the car that I can't replace at the next Walmart I run into. Any knives or flashlights are on my person when I leave the house.

For long road trips I've got a little bag that includes a large Becker, either a BK9 or a Machax, and a Leatherman ST 300 in the sheath pocket. I travel quite frequently by car, but 99% of the time is somebody else's vehicle, and folks don't tend to have much stuff in their cars so I bring a few tools, flashlights, first aid kit and so on. It's proven to be a good idea time and time again, especially when we're in parts of Patagonia.
