What knife do you most associate with the USA?

Being a european, my idea of a genuine US knife is the Buck 110. No Ka-bar, Bowie or others can compete, IMO.

In my mind it is the Mora # 1 of US knives :).

The first thing I thought of was a Barlow knife. Nearly every all-American boy used to carry one. Ironically, it is not an original American design but, I believe, it originated in England.

All good choices in the historical context of this topic - the average age of the designs is over 40 years.

The modern knife that exemplifies American would be the MARSOC SMF - distinct style, materials, and issue to boot. It's the Randall of our times.

I shut my eyes and thought American knife, the two that appeared were a Buck 110 and a bone handled Scout knife like the type issued in W.W. II.

as many have already said Rambo/Bowie knife is the typical thought and the #1 sheeple response. so much so that I have a first hand account. I was working on a construction site and the project manager got a splinter in his hand and asked if anyone had a knife so he could remove it. I hand him my large seb closed mind you and when he folds it open he says loudly "WOAH! WHAT DO YOU CARY THIS RAMBO KNIFE AROUND FOR? true story and I think it helps to sum up the views of too many.

Bowie -a real bowie not a cheesy Rambo knife
K-Bar 1095 please with stacked leather handles
Case slippie for sitting in a rocking chair on the porch whittling

I think these embody everthing I admire about americans. Character ,quality a sense of history and craftsmanship.

The typical cheap stainless Emerson rip off pseudotanto made by slaves in china and sold at truck stops embody everything wrong with the US.

Kabar USMC
Bowie (Western W-49)
Buck 120
Buck 110
Stockman
and inevitably the 1st Rambo knife.

Kabar, I got one strapped on my jeep rollbar. :D Buck 110 is way generalized now, you'd be hard pressed to find a country who dosen't make something looks the same.
