What knife do you take into the woods?

Fallkniven F1, Leatherman Charge, Delica or BM 905 Stryker if backpacking, camping or hiking
Leatherman Charge and cheap small buck fixed blade (beater bait knife) when out deep sea or beach fishing
Just the buck and a cheap pair of needlenose pliers when out in the kayak might look into a salt though

I find that my SOG Got-Tac and either a Buck 110 or similar folder can do most of the basic chores you'll encounter in the woods.

If I'm just taking a walk in the woods my edc are fine. BM 800S, Spy. delica pln. edge, and a leatherman squirt S4, Seber M2, Vic. exec., Mag. Solitaire, and a couple safety pins all on a key ring.

Hunting this year I will bring a Swamp Rat HR, Swamp Rat RW, and a Vic multi tool. I use the RW to clean up shooting lanes and patch ground blinds.

Camping for me is mostly canoe camping so I carry the RW, HR, GBF wildlife hatchet, and a Sven saw.

Ka-Bar fighter and Swamp Rat M6 and a multitool of sorts. Those are worn on my belt along with 3W LED minimags(2) and a couple spare magazines for my pistol. Then I usually have a pocket knife too which as of late has been a camilus heat.

When I did a lot of woods hiking before the old arthritis hit me, I carried my 6" Randall Hunters Bowie and various locking folders. That would still be my choice today were I able to enjoy woods walking again. The folders would be one of the following:
MicroTech LCC
Spyderco StarMate
Spyderco ATR Ti
Spyderco Chinook II

I also would likely carry my old Gerber Multi-Plier tool.

If I am going to be in the woods for a while then I take my RD7 .

Me too. Plus a folder, or a smaller fixed like a hunting knife for food prep or delicate cutting. I find an RD6 or 7 can pinch hit for just about anything from a parring knife to a splitting maul, making it a great "survival" or "tactical" knife.

Seems that my most carried fixed blade is a Dozier PGK. Along with that comes either my Microtech Socom Elite or Spyderco Paramillitary and a SAK. There is always a folding saw in my pack as well.

Fallkniven F1, Leatherman Charge, Delica or BM 905 Stryker if backpacking, camping or hiking

I carry a H.I. 16.5" WW II, a Spyderco, and a Victorinox Swiss Army tool. This combo has covered all my needs so far.

I live out in the sticks in Colorado and I carry a X2 Voyager in my pocket and either a trailmaster, a Laredo, a USMC Kabar, or a Kuhkri I obtained from Nepal.

One of several locking folders is usually with me when I go hiking:
BM 710
Buck 110
Spyderco Military

I always have one of several slipjoints:
MM Jumbo Stockman
Schatt English Jack
Queen City Mini Trapper
Case CV Trapper
Some type of SAK

For longer trips or camping I'll also bring a fixed blade: a Bark River Settler.

My BRKT IMP is often somewhere about my person as well, usually instead of a locking folder.

CRK Warrior (Neil Roberts) fixed blade
Victorinox SwissTool
CRK large regular sebenza

If I had one, I would carry a Cold Steel SRK, but for now I carry a Ka-Bar Short, a Leatherman Wave, and whichever folding knife I am carrying.

I'm curious about the folding redundancy here. Do you guys just like to have a nice folder with you (Guilty myself, I like my 110 :) ) or do you use your folders for things the blade on a Wave or Victorinox couldn't handle? I would think a multi-tool / SAK could handle all the small knife chores, such as finer whittling and kitchen tasks, the rest could be left to the fixed blade.

For just plain woods stomping, day hikes and such I usually carry a 3 3/4 inch Lauri Puukko (my handle on it) and a Swiss Tinker. If I'm hiking a ways for an overnighter I throw my BK 5 into the mix, and if canoes, trucks, airplanes, or short hikes are involved I sometimes carry my Fort Turner tomahawk instead of the Becker.

I also have a Bark River Northstar, Highland, Mountain Man, Golok,a couple other Scandinavian knives, and an HI khuk that I throw into the mix on occassion, depending on seasons, planned tasks (hunting, canoeing, hiking, car camping, etc.), number of people with me, or just plain if the mood hits me...:D :o

I'm a knife geek of the worst kind. I'll spend HOURS and sometimes even lose sleep deciding what knife to take into the woods with me. Ridiculous, especially when I know darned good and well that they all work.

*shrug* I spent a handful of minutes trying to decide on Opinel versus Buck 110 today. Decided the Buck had been hogging pocket time too much recently, was in the mood for flat-ground goodness too.

Different knives offer different experiences. No shame in deciding which one fits your mood and desires best I suppose. If I was rushed, I know I could of grabbed either and been fine.

I take a Brusletto Troll, and SAK with me on dayhikes, anything longer and I throw my ol' Gerber hatchet in the pack.

I carry a Cold Steel LTC Kukuri, Cold Steel Bush Ranger, SA Swisschamp SOG Jetedge and CRKT Stiff Kiss.
