I just caught the survivor show last night, 'Man vs Wild', on Discovery. Does anyone know what knife Bear Grylls uses? It is smaller than most folks would think - he did use it to strike a flint against - and feed himself some termites. (He must be fun at a sit-down dinner - or a buffet!). Neat show - and what brave cameramen!

Judging by your post you've obviously been in a coma for the last year or so. Do a search and you will find the 500 threads regarding this topic. Welcome back...

The man has a colorful history on Bladeforums. Here are 3 threads from this past month alone.

Bear Grylls is back
Les Stroud vs Bear Grylls: The Survive-Off

In the first thread, Buz noted:
Seems in past episodes he used cheapies, at least he's moving up!

Yes he did use the knife to strike a ferro rod against. The only problem with what the idiot did this week was to use the sharpened edge against the ferro rod rather than using the back of the blade.

Well must admit I ain't enamoured with Bear Grylls at all. Usually I don't watch but I did watch with interest the program where he flew a parafoil above Everest. The first no bull shit thing I think I have seen him do. That was ballsy I thought and kind of dumb. Anyways he uses a knife that would cost us over 800 bucks. Nough said. keepem sharp

I don't watch TV. I have never seen him in action. But from what I've read here, he endorses the Bayley knife, he doesn't actually use it on the show.

He was in the Sahara on the last show. Any idea what knife that was? It looked like green canvas micarts handle, with leather teather in the lanyard hole. It didn't look like the Bayley knife.

I saw a part of the "Camino Real" episode the other night and it looked like he was in fact using the Bayley knife.

Stainz, your right about the cameramen, and you can buy the same knife without the name on it for a couple hundred dollars less,he gets a lot of bad raps lately, but he is still better to watch than 90 percent of the other crap they have on TV,other than surviverman!!!

He uses it in every episode of season 2. He used all cheap knives in the first season.

Actually, I think he uses one of those plastic knives like you find on the Ramada continental breakfast table.

Not a big deal, but ... casual insults in response to an honest question aren't really funny. Not everyone is an expert on everything. That's why we have these forums, so people can come and ask questions, and not be derided for it. I certainly don't think abiggs was out of line, joking about it, but we don't have to rub it in.

The Camino Real episode was in South America. I guess it is the name of the old highway network used to move the gold out of the jungle and get it back to Spain.
