What knife does Bear Grylls use?

That's the knife I saw on the Sahara episode. Finally, someone knew what knife he used. Thanks for this info. I think that knife looks good, but for over $400, it is pricey.

Actually if you do the conversion from B.P. to U.S.D it's over $700.00 not counting shipping.

RWL 34 steel is very high end. Kressler knives that sell for $2000 and up are made with this steel. For $400, the Raven series, Bayley knives seem in line for such good material. The green micarta handled one looks very nice.

Oh, I saw 205 pounds, and thought the pound was around $2us. $700 is alot. Kressker, who is one of Europes top makers commands very high prices, because of his craftsmanship. I don't know mjch about Bayley.

I didn't clarify well there. The knife Bear endorses is over $700.00 USD. His knife is based off the Raven series.

Here is Bear's $700.00 knife:

I heard that this guy flies out to a 5 star hotel instead of sleeping in the camps he builds. If true this is a bit deseptive.

Mr. Gylls was in British SAS, climbed mount Everest, etc. I'm sure he "roughed it" many times in his life. He needn't go through all that again. Surely he knows how to do these things. He is making a show to demonstrate these techniques. He likes to stay in first class accommodations, and I don't blame him. Who likes to stay outside like an animal?

Agree with the last post....I don't think 1% of the people in this forum have done half the stuff this guy has done in real life. It is a show people. I don't think that makes him a fraud. He is merely instructing on survival situations. Granted some of the stuff he does is nuts, but I think what he is showing is what is possible in a given situation. He doesn't have to prove his survival skills in the show to get the point across. Survivorman doesn't do the nutty things Bear does because he is alone. Take them and enjoy them....they are better than most crap on TV.

You both may be correct as far as Bear's background. I have no real idea because I have never really looked into it, and quite frankly don't care. The original poster was asking about the knife Bear is using this season, not what Bear may or may not have done in the past.

If you watch his shows; pre and post editing of this outing; it makes very little to no difference if he sleeps in a hotel or not. All his shows now make it clear he has help; animals he comes across are sometimes "brought in" and that he doesn't always "camp out". Makes no difference, bother to watch the show before you cry deception.

I almost crapped my self when I did the conversion on that price to US dollars.

He has balls though. He does a lot of stuff that physically I could never do (climb mount Everest for starters). A lot of the stuff he does on his show would get a normal person killed (most of the climbing and waterfall descents etc).

I always knew he had people lugging his stuff around. I never felt misled at all. The other survivor guy makes a point of saying how he carries all his gear him self, which is harder, but limits the amount of ground he can cover. He also pre-scouts his areas

This has been well hashed out in other threads, but I never regarded him as a fraud. I knew from day one that I was watching a tv show created for the purpose of attracting viewers and generating revenue for the Discovery Channel. Sorta like when when I watched "24" and knew that Kiefer Sutherland didn't really have a nuclear bomb in his backpack. Even though Keifer's character never issued a disclaimer telling the viewer it was just fictional.

wow, "24" and "man vs wild", talk about apples/avacados lol, while "24" is pretty widely known to be what it is, entertainment, MvW claims to provide instruction on survival issues, while most know LA wasnt the sight of a nuclear holocaust far fewer understand that MvW is the same thing, entertainment.

as far as his $700 FB, i just dont see $700 for one, i just dont. now $250, $300?? i could understand that but i just dont see what justifies the $700, the knifes association with bear?? i dont know, imho i would get a busse.

Well the show is called "Man Vs. Wild"....not "Man Vs. Room Service"

Well, the responses here started with sarcasm, ended up with some real good info - quite an education. Amazingly, that $700+ knife will throw sparks like a flint and a worn-out hacksaw blade chunk will. Also, serving yourself some termites with one seemed efficient, too. I'll use my Buck 110 to open a pack of wooden matches - and, later, a pack of hot dogs. You betcha I have camped... but, roughing it now, for me, is best effected by a stay in Motel 6.

Hats off to Mr. Grylls, he has proven his metal - and does provide good entertainment. He can have all of the help he needs - and sleep where he wants. One must remember, commercial TV exists to sell advertising... it is entertainment - even the news, recalling their "If it bleeds, it leads!" axiom. Thanks to all for the great 'entertainment' and education I got re Bear Grylls and his knife, a neato example, even if I can't afford it. Yeah, even the early sarcasm was 'entertaining'!

He also did a show where he spent a month as a French Legionare. He didn't carry a knife in that one though. The legionares couldn't figure out how to make it run long distance with rocks in it's sheath.
That show was nuts. His new show aside he roughed it on that show.108 degrees at 6 am in the desert with angry legionares yelling at you 24-7.They had a 2 and a half hour ride to the nearest medicenter so I don't think there were any 5 star resorts in that part of Morocco.

Here is my problem with "Bear", the things he does can and will get you killed in a real life situation, plain and simple, and he should put some sort of disclaimer that if you use his techniques to survive some of them will get you killed faster. Perfect example is his penchant for doing the Banzai down every type of terrain known to man. Down rocky mountain faces, down dry river beds, down waterfalls, down snow covered mountains, etc. This is just pure idiocy for anyone to do. You twist a knee, ankle or wrist and you just reduced your chances of survival by more than half. Running in hot weather? ever heard of overheating? Ever heard of weather dry enough in snow that it causes sublimation, meaning that even in snow covered areas you can loose all your fluids. STUPID.

He states how dangerous walking on a lava field is and what does he do? Not only does he walk on it, but he jumped onto the first section. You have any idea what force a man weighing 200 lbs jumping down 4-5 feet can generate? I could go on for pages on what he does that people should not do. Great thing is that watching his shows, teaches you what not to do most of the time. So he has his own little knife and he's done this and that. I am sure he's had a team supporting him with everything he's done.

He's not even in the class of Less Strouds boot soles. Less is miserable doing every episode because it can end his life.

RANT MODE OFF

Having said all that I love watching his show because it is entertaining in a fake BS movie sort of way. I like the knife as well. Not sure if it is any good, but it looks good:thumbup::D

While the revelations about the "life and death" situations that Bear finds himself in were a real embarassment, I don't think his credentials are anything to be scoffed about. His military training and accomplishments are impressive.

I watch the show purely for entertainment, its outrageous and funny as hell sometimes. I don't watch it for a survival primer.

There are many opinions regarding this show, and Bear Grylls, in particular. One thing that seems clear, most people like to watch the show. It is pretty cool, and is alot better than most of the crap on tv.these days. I guess nothing is perfect, but Bear is quite entertaining. Also, he uses knives alot, and I sure like to see that. Not many shows have knives featured as much as Man vs Wild.
