My dear old mum used to carry a BAHCO fixed blade in her purse every day, for about 10years, to peel oranges up until she passed away at age 81.
I'm interested to see what your mum/mom chooses to carry or has carried in the past.

Mums knife on a blanket she knitted me.

Not my mom, but story about a friends mom.

She took us to McDonalds for lunch, she wanted to cut a hamburger in half for my friends little brother. She reached into her purse and pulled out a stag handled folding knife, she had my attention then she pushed the button and that beautiful Italian stiletto blade flew open, she had my respect.

Talk about the last thing you would ever expect her to have in her purse. It was and still is a felony here to carry a switch blade.

A pink Spyderco Delica and Ladybug. The Ladybug gets carried 99.9% percent of the time, I remember the Delica mostly roaming around the house. The opening holes were a big selling point, she doesn't open them one handed, but uses the hole as a pinch point.

She also has a very small collection of fancy patterned celluloid folders that she bought because they were pretty or were gifts :).

My father introduced me to knives in my youth, and I introduced my mother to knives in my adulthood.
First, it was a Ladybug. She really liked it, but wanted something a bit bigger. Then came the Dragonfly. She loved it, but wanted something a little more substantial. The Delica seemed logical, and she definitely cottoned to that one. It was gratifying to see my suburban mom practice her amateur whittling out in nature; I have an indelible image of that etched in the solid parts of my Swiss cheese memory...

Unfortunately, contemporary regulations concerning knives on airplanes were not on her radar when her Dragonfly was confiscated boarding a plane in Australia. And then mom forgot about the Delica in her carry-on bag while attempting to board a flight in Israel, which tends to take its security seriously. I wasn't there to witness either event, but lucky for her in Israel, she was obviously so freaked out and mortified that security just confiscated the knife and sent her on her way.

I bought her another Dragonfly variant for her recent birthday. She keeps it in her purse, in its original packaging -- as if the packaging is a magical force field which will protect it from being confiscated when it makes sense to fly again. (I should just chain it to a hubcap or broom handle like they do with gas station bathroom keys. :D )
