what knife features you hate most on knives?

I hate EDC's without milled out liners, without jimping, or weigh more than 5 ounces.

I think that this thread could be useful if it were designed in a poll format with like/don't like choices. I think that some things like blade centering, useful blade length vs handle length are universal.
Sonny

The original Paramilitary was designed specifically for this.

Also don't like bad blade to handle ratios, linerlocks, clips that leave too much knife visible, clips that aren't black, rust, and unnecessarily thick blades.

I hate partial serrations if I want or need serrations I'll want the whole blade serrated even though I only own one FS knife ( Spydie Ladybug ) I find that they come in handy under certain circumstances however for most days I find my self gravitating towards plain edges almost exclusively.

I hate when a company releases a larger sized fixed blade with a paracord wrapped handle...like what you see in a lot of striders. It's okay on smaller knives like the Izula or cord wrapping over something like leather/ray skin, but on a larger fixed blade it just seems like they don't care about finishing their knives. It's especially irksome when they try to sell it as a tactical choice rather than laziness.

frame locks and or liner locks because i always cut the nuts out of my thumbs

useless fo choils

useless lanyard holes skyline for ex

prybar blades that have a bevel over 40deg incl

anything that says its "hard use" and then you get it and apply it and it breaks (i suppose i should say that i have HARD wood where i live like oak and lighternaught/"fat wood" and i dont give a f*** if i encounter knots or have to cross grain baton and when you put together a guy with too much time + a company who oversells a knife + very punishing mediums you get some busted knives)

dull factory edges cough benchmade cough glock cough spyderco on the lum tanto on the convex part that is over 50 deg incl cough chris reeve cough

expensive knives ( for their class ex sebenza some benchmades cold steel emerson) that have sh*t steels ex emersons at 150->200 buck with 154cm WTF and their build quality sucks monkey bawlz, sebbie >300-400 bucks and s30v or s35vn at like 58 rc please benchmades d2 can outdo that easily why you may ask do i know this CAUSE I FLIPPIN TESTED THEM SIDE BY MOTHER FLIPPIN SIDE

that 360 deg of play that you have on spyderco's backlocks and the "give" or "flex" but its really not flex more like non tight tolerances on say a paramillie

the amount of knives by spyderco that i have gotten that stick m390 paramillie, lum tanto,to a certain extent m4 manix 2

how much it sucks to close a triad lock

how scary it is to thumb open a cs spartan because i always open it like .5-1" and then i slip and i am SO close to chopping the tip of my middle/ring/pinkey finger off when that spring catches and starts to close the blade

tip down carry on a knife that is best with and or has a FLIPPING LANYARD HOLE F****** MILLIE WHAT THE F**** IS THIS WOLD COMING TO

Useless space. Makes no sense to have a 5" handle and 3" blade. Either make the whole knife smaller, or take advantage of the extra space for more blade length. I love the really compact knife handles that fit in as much blade as possible.

Absolutely agree. Add choils and recurves to things I can do without on a knife.

Knives that claim have super secret proprietary heat treatment formulas that leave cheap carbon steel at 55-57Rc or allegedly good steel at say 57-58Rc when either type is perfectly capable of being left at 60Rc+ if done PROPERLY.
Handle texturing that requires the use of "combat gloves" which, as far as I can tell, are just green or black golf or batting gloves.
Most knives that are broken in half on purpose (folders) yet are marketed as "hard use" knives.;)
Knives that look like they were coated with spray on truck bed liner. ESPECIALLY ones made from stainless steel.
Flat, thin handle scales with square edges, especially on fixed blades.
Frame lock folders where they don't give you a discount on the purchase price even though they left off one of the handle scales.:D

constructively...

coldsteel hates good blade steels. all they care about are outsized handles and strong locks. regarding the blade, they limit themselves to nice-looking profiles.

benchmade also likes gaudy handles. their blades have good steel but scream tacticlol for 90% of them.

spyderco hates handles. they're soon to market a handle-less folder. also in the works is a blade that's wider than it is long.

ZT must have been in the barbell business before they went into knives. they seem allergic to the sight of bare steel.

emerson blades are ground in a gravity-warped part of the world where people walk tilted to the left.

Choils, jimping. A choil is an extension of the handle, and not a very comfortable one at that.

not wild about bead blast finish, in fact it's pretty much a deal killer, powder coated blades, kraton handles, partially serrated blades, (full serrated is fine) The hard plastic sheaths CRKT makes. Press type rivets on kitchen knife handles. 420hc steel blades. So many of the things I don't like are trends that came along to make knives cheaper

Personally I like and only buy knives now with choil and jimping. Hate assisted openers, usually comes with blade play.

Hate is a strong word but I don't care for tanto's, chisel grinds, and think some otherwise nice knives have been ruined by adding serrations. I don't like skulls either.

ZT - Cleaver like blades and built like a chock-block for a semi.
Flippers belong on Dolphins.
Tiger/Zebra stripes, look fine on Tigers and Zebras, but dumb on knives.
Bead blast blade finish. Rust magnet.

ANY metallic handles!! Why? There's so many great alternatives? Also, combo blades. Nothing against serrations, I just either want all serrated, or plain edge.

Depends on the company. Benchmade AO rarely comes with blade play. If you're buying a bunch of SOGs or Frost Cutlery then yes most of your AO's will come with blade play but that doesn't mean MOST AO knives come with blade play.
