What knife got you hooked on bucks?

Sorry to have started such a similiar thread so close together. I was on vacation over that time and I guess I missed it.

No, no problem. I was just to tired and lazy to type this morning.:D

I was sold on Buck the first time I saw my dad take a rock and hammer his 119 through a mule deer pelvis and sternum. He still hunts with that same 119 every year. Must be 30 years old and the spine is beaten to death from him pounding on it with rocks! Has a small chip in the edge from me pounding it through a hip joint with a hammer so he calls that his serrations now lol

We built a campground along the Colorado River in 1972. I bought a 112 to help me with the many ouside chores. I still have the little gem.

110 for me. It was the hunting knife to have in the rural area where I grew up. Still the knife that most appeals to my eye today.

Confession is good for the soul. It was the 110 back in '74 that provided the gateway opportunity followed years later with the superb Alpha Hunter series.

The Buck/Tops CSAR-T EMS model with the web cutter/glass breaker on the back. I fell in love with the chunkiness of the blade and handle and fully dedicated liner lock separate from the full stainless steel liners. It was one of those...wow thats cool. I gotta have that. Then I started reading up on the history of Buck. I liked their move to Idaho and their move to bring back alot of their production to the USA.

I toured the Buck factory in San Diego (El Cajon?), California in the early 1980's and again in the 90's, and have had an interest in their knives ever since. Recently I found a vintage 1965-66, I believe, 121 Fisherman scaler, with "BUCK" stamped on the ricasso, at a yard sale. It's my first ever knife purchase, so I guess that also makes it my favorite. I bought the knife because of the BUCK stamp but had no idea how old it was. It's in great shape and they were still making knives at the Buck factory in the 80's that looked very similar. Dumb luck!

My first Buck was a 1968 119. I first saw one in a store while at the Oakland Army induction Center getting a physical for enlistment. In early Sept 1968 I was ordered to Vietnam to be in the infantry.
I bought a Buck 119 to carry with me. Had that knife all the way through and when it would get gunky I used some M16 oil called LSA on it. Unfortunately after I got back to the states I tossed it under my pick-up seat. A long time later I found the knife while cleaning and found it badly tarnished and pitted. The sheath nearly fell apart and was a terrible green color.
I went down to the local store and bought a new one. Every since that first 119 I have been collecting fixed blade Bucks. Don't know why but fixed blades fascinate me. I now have over 60 collectors and continue to look for more, even if they are triplicates.

I have not been much of a Buck fan most of my adult life. I bought into the hype... Cold Steel, Spyderco, Kershaw, Benchmade, SOG even CRKT but never Buck. I always just thought "That is a granpa knife". This changed a few of months ago. I got a really good deal on a Buck Vantage Select and a Buck 482. I got these along with two other knives that i figured i would sell and turn a quick profit. All four knives were in pristine condition. But the vantage and the 482 put the hook in me. I carried the Vantage everyday for like two months, then I found it deep in my pocket with the clip who know's where. By this time I was really impressed with the knife. So I sent an email to Buck to get a clip sent out. That was a no go. Company policy says the knife needs to be sent in for a clip. Estimated time was going to be 6 weeks. That was it. I was done with Buck... but then... I got an email from one of the employees stating that she was sending me a cip and screws out the same day! Wow! Great knife... Great customer service. That is what brought me to Buck knives.

What is going to keep me is what happened this last weekend. Long story short (too late) I had to cut a wooden clost rod. All I had was my Vantage and a hammer. Ten minutes later, rod cut and not even a scratch on the blade coating of my Vantage! Still shaving sharp! I expected that from S30V or even 154CM but not 420HC! I am now looking into obtaining some more Buck knives. Thank you Buck for making a great knife and having wonderful customer service!

My first Buck was a 121. That sealed the deal. Bought it from Bumsteads Sporting Goods in Ontario, California in 1969. Had that knife until 1972 when it got confiscated by the Marine's at the main gate at the Long Beach Naval Base for being a concealed deadly weapon. Blade was longer than 3 1/2" and was in my tackle box. Go figure. Now I have 7 of them.

I bought a Buck 110 "Workman" at Sears in 1989 and always served me well, but I didn't get "hooked" until I bought a new Slimline this summer and came to this subforum looking for information. It's been a downhill spiral ever since.:)

I bought a Buck 110 when I was in the Navy in 1968. I worked in the engineroom of a destroyer, I used it practially everyday. I sold it to a good friend who was a deer hunter, he passed away a few years later. I wish I could get it back, just for the memories. I currently have several Bucks including a 301 that i edc. ftd

Buck 112, presented by my troop in '77 to all new Eagles. Though the original is long gone, I've got a replacement from the same era. Also love those '80s Bucklites, superb knives, built like tanks.

Had a 110 for forever but never really payed it much attention until I got a Vantage in a swap. The Vantage sent me into looking at more of Buck's lineup and then.....

My Dad gave me his old 105 when I was in middle school. Not long afterward, my uncle gave me a Fieldmate for Christmas. Seeing my Scoutmasters with their 110s and 112s really elevated my opinion of Buck knives. I never had a Buck folder until recently, but now I've got a 309 or 303 on me about 97.8% of the time.

The first knife i purchased when I was 15 in the early 70's was a 110 folding hunter. I had that knife for about 10 years until it grew feet somehow? I hate when that happens!
