Just looking for some opinions on what knife would be the best for self defense. Something concealable and can cause major damage if the situation arises.
I had a great time talking about this subject with a few guys at the Dayton show. I also think that I have a new knife that I need to buy.;)

I would have to go with the Sus Scrofa. First of all the handle for me is perfectly designed. Second, it is a pointy SOB. Last, the re curve blade would draw whatever was being cut into the heart of the cutting surface. What do you guys think and why.

The one in your hand at the right time. :)

I had to someone was going to say it.

Now what would you be asking ? what could be made or what is already out there ?

Clearly the Argonne Assault. I don't know about you, but i wouldn't want to meet any side of that piece of INFI. Danger Will Robinson, Danger!

Cheat.

Shiva Rex

Maybe a Holy Terror

Just make an INFI bayonete for one of your pistols, that way you can have the best of both worlds :D

A FREAKING BIG BASTAGE....... or to quote another great Aussie "That's not a knife"... ;)

Now I have personally seen people killed with all manner of sharpened objects/tools. One of the quickest deaths was with a TOOTH BRUSH but it was a lucky hit on a femoral artery. Industrial textile shears were pretty spectacular though...

There is no quick end in a knife fight, one has to keep cutting/stabbing till the opposition is completely incapacitated or they are liable to stick you back...!!

So you really want to buy a Sus Scrofa?? I can help with that. My purchase came at 2:00am, under the influence of bourbon. What's your excuse?

I'm no knife fighter, but I'd suspect you'd be fine with anything in the 3-4" range. I prefer to carry a fixed blade and a folder with me whenever I'm able to. Both are in the 3-3 1/2" range, and will hit organs for sure. Do I want to defend myself with a knife? Not really. However, if I need to I know it's there. Mostly, practice with what you decide to carry, and make damn sure you know where it is at all times as well as how to use it effectively.

I almost forgot the obligatory internet sarcasm. The best knife for self defense would be a sharp one.

I don't think there is such a thing as a knife fight, you will almost never encounter another guy on the street with a knife and be circling around him like on TV. There is no one style of blade shape over the other that will give you an advantage if you have never had formal training. It's pretty gruesome when you get into combative fighting, and Ernest Emerson has some video clips on his website that will give you an idea of what "dispatching" a threat should be like. He goes straight for critical shots like he trains military personnel. The sus scrofa blade shape I would say in my opinion is more of a seaman type knife with its point rounding down in the front that is not as good for penetration and more for pull cutting like you would need on a rocking boat without or to cut rope or slash.
Maybe a meaner street is better and has the same handle ;)
