An old Frost Cutlery One Armed Razor with Pakka Wood Scales, I bought this knife with a similar Splitback Whittler back in the early '80s at the Allentown Fair in NEPA.

It was then and still is a very well made knife, I guess the QC was a lot stricter back then.

My EDC is an Italian Front Opener Automatic.

You might wonder why I risk a felony by EDC an automatic knife.

Well when I was about 18 I had a pocket knifes locking mechanism fail on me and the knife folded over on my finger. It partially severed the Tendon in my first finger.... :thumbdn:

So I REFUSE to carry another folding knife for the rest of my Life.

I am a Chef so I work with knifes alot and I use my switchblade for utility work. Like putting away stock. It also doubles as a great defensive blade.

Xare,
You should look into some higher quality (yes, also more expensive) OTF's if thats what your dead set on carrying forever.
Also, if you dont mind me asking, what were you doing that caused the folder to fold over and nearly sever your tendon?

I was using the tip of the blade to push a leather strap into a rubber sole of a shoe.

The knife folded over onto my finger.

It was an old pocket knife my grandfather used to have kinda like this one:

It was most likely a no name made in china knife with poor QC, if you get a knife with a good lock, it most likely won't fail you, hell the only knives in my pocket right now don't even have locks and I've never had a knife close up on me.

Thanks!! Yeah, I LOVE the C/U too. I also have one on order with Mr. Sawby; a white one with red liners. I HAD to order one have scoring the one I have from a dealer. What an ingenious lock. I love how thin it is.

Would you mind explaining the lock on it? What it's called and how it works? Thanks!

It is called the Sawby Self-Lock. It works like this: The Lock and Pivot Bushing is incorporated into one unit. Unlocking is accomplished by depressing the checkered tab beneath the front bolsters.

JTR357, everytime I see that knife I'm one step closer to buying it. I own a P'Kal and love the lock. Was the upgrade to s90v worth it in your opinion? Looks like a pretty great EDC design. Thanks, Smitty

strykersng,I haven't put it through any tuff cutting jobs,so can't really say much about the steel difference.
I can say that the ergos are phenominal on this knife,as well as carry comfort. Also,It has one of the strongest locks I ever had in a folder. It is a great EDC choice IMHO.I especially like the FFG,as opposed the the hollow grind on the regular Manix II.
Do I think it's worth it?Absolutely.Considering there were only 400 made.I mainly bought it,because It's the first S90V blade I have, plus I love Spyderco's CF.It comes laser sharp out of the box too!

Back on topic:

Today I'm carrying a Spyderco Large Persion (C83).

Decided to slip my old Spyderco Police knife in my pocket today. An older design, but still a darn fine large folder.

Oh yeah, nice knife man  I Regret getting rid of mine :( even more so the lil boy, BUT CANT WAIT FOR MY BASIC 9 TO SHOW UP! You gotta give a little in order to get

Hope to see Spyderco release a new and improved version in the near feature. It is IMO, their most eye appealing model with exception to the C54

I like that a lot, the concept especially with razor and a knife!

I used my old Wayne Goddard Lightweight - my very 1st Spydie - to deburr and contour a coupla hiking staffs today. The liner-less canvas micarta handle is slim enough to make this 5-1/8" closed knife disappear in my pocket, and it's light as a (steel and micarta) feather. Nice ergos, too. Surprisingly, the blade still locks-up tight and has no lateral play, in spite of the non-adjustable pivot and almost two decades of use.
